False positive from mold?

I'm in a closed group on FB with folks saying you can get a false positive Lyme test from mold toxicity.
I feel like that's not true, but am opening it up to discussion and researched opinions?

((I myself was CDC+ almost 3 years ago, and now going through Shoemaker testing for mold...but I'll be honest- the thought of a false positive for Lyme actually angers me, BC of how hard it is to get a + in the first place)). That's totally my bias

really not sure how you'd get a positive if you have mold and not spirochetes swimming around in your blood.

cappuccinocurls - it's possible that addressing mold will help if you're not progressing with lyme treatment.
But, not everyone has a mold issue.

What about the co-infections...have you/are you treating any of them?

Girlie - I had some basic quest blood work done last year that showed signs of mold toxicity and exposure. That doesn't mean I'm full blown, but I wanted to go down the rabbit hole and make sure I'm not missing something. Getting my c4a tested, MRI with neuroquant, and other blood work. I can update my situation later this month once it all comes back in. I'm not totally sold on the CIRS doctor, but I also want to make sure I try EVERYTHING before trying PICC. It's overwhelming. Almost 3 years after diagnosis

To answer the question about coinfections - yes, I've done mepron, malerone (hated both), rifamphin (also hated it). I do houtinynia (bad spelling), sameno and banderol now too, in addition to pulsed abx and other supplements

C4a is not going to tell you whether you have mold exposure or not. It will tell you whether you have lyme disease at least that's my understanding.

You could also do Advanced Labs Mycotoxin urine test but I'm not sure how to use the results. I was positive for Gliotoxins which can come from mold or candida. I also had positive Ochratoxin which comes from contaminated food I think a lot of folks are probably running around with some mold from food.

The way to remove toxins is to take a binder the most popular is Cholestyramine but I take its cousin Welchol.

There really is no accurate test for mold unless you have allergies in which case you test for IgE response. Usually has to be diagnosed from found contamination

K07 - what do you mean by shoemaker doesn't place a lot of emphasis on Lyme ? It's a non issue?

When I went to the see the mold/CIRS doctor I got the impression that my Lyme concerns were kind of dismissed (despite my CDC + test results). And while I get that mold can be mixed in, I don't want to ignore that I still have symptoms.

Have you treated for both?

There is also cholerella which I am already on. I love that it doesnt constipate me.

I also have cholestramine. I haven't taken it

I would say if you're already treating Lyme, don't stop. Just add in something to mop the mold out and see about finding the source and getting it dealt with.

And I was going to see if Buhner had something to say about that in his second edition, but my book that is always on my computer desk like my go to Lyme reference, has disappeared off the face of the earth!! I don't know where it is.

Most people on the FB group say antibiotics are a no-no with lyme. I have not delved into why. I am not sure if that applies to herbals but I have no issue with them. Abx is a different storey, causes bad insomnia and flare up in urinary issues.

ABX is our abbreviation for antibiotics. Sorry about that.


All I can say is I have found the best, most up to date help on this forum, as it is a combined effort with several keeping abreast of the latest research, as well as continued feed back from members here that have healed.

We try to be supportive of all forms of treatment, if they have at least proved helpful to someone, and we tell folks both Lyme and the road to healing is not a one size fits all deal.

Use what makes sense to you, shelve the rest, and do what feels right to you. I would and have, trusted my life to this group. as have many others. I have never felt this at home on any facebook health groups. But that's me.

The issues with mold come largely from the fact that abx destroy natural bacterial flora which keep fungi in check. Many LLMDs recommend an anti-candida diet when on abx for example. However those are commensal fungi and thus adapted to living on humans. I don't know how that applies to airborne molds but destruction of natural flora is undesirable for fending of pathogens in general and some airborne fungi are definitely opportunistic pathogens. Herbs tend to contain diverse regulatory effects on natural flora and their killing capacity also frequently extends to molds, viruses, parasites, etc thus limiting opportunism when fighting bacteria. Herbal formulas extend this buffer. That doesn't mean however that in all times in all places in all people an herb or formula won't have a negative effect. But generally speaking you can expect the relationship between herb and antibiotic to be analogous to that between fruit and corn syrup. One is a very primitive and reductionist approach to physiology that has no place in an ecologically sensible understanding of life and the other much more adherent to the natural processes that govern all things and thus better at maintaining homeodynamis.

Not saying not to do abx though. In today's world where herbalism is a dying art you do what you gotta do and always keep your eye on the bigger picture thinking how you can compensate. Many people do get improvement from abx. If you're trying to get off Capp. maybe find an herb that's a strong antimicrobial to swap with
