milk and lyme

I wonder if you could get lyme disease from milk. If a cow is infected with lyme, which most probably are, could you get it from drinking its milk? Does pasturization 100% kill lyme spirochetes?

There is anecdotly a story of raw goats milk curing a french persons lyme ..
however my niece is the only one not testing for lyme in our family and she was given raw goats milk as a toddler ...maybe like vaccine of tranferfactors idk just sayin..

i really craved it when i was doing parasite clease ...but alas candida

raw beef could have it how many cows get ticks and how many med rare steaks are being served ..people just dont get it ...i didnt know ...was going to make a state joke but the whole country feeds on beef like cowboys (girls)

I know this thread is old and I saw another one addressing infected meat possibly causing Lyme in people.

This interests me bc my family consumed raw milk for probably 7 years before my daughter Blakeley got sick. She also ate wild deer meat twice the year she got sick.

Of course, we could’ve missed a tick on her over the years, but the only one we remember removing from her was 7 years before her heath crash.

It’s not an important concern really, considering everything else we are dealing with with Lyme but I can’t help but wonder...

Also, we have found many friends online that my daughter has been conversing with and it is so prevalent among older teen girls to younger 20s that seem to manifest the exact way Blakeley has. Thinking through the possibilities...hormones, vaccines from when they were younger triggering something, etc

To answer the why...I think ignorance (lack of knowledge).
We definitely live and learn! We went through an extended time period of basically living as self sufficiently as possible, focusing on growing naturally with limited organic products, raising our own meat, eggs, etc. Made our own cheese, yogurt, buttermilk, etc. You get the point.

Never did I even consider any of this being a danger, as we regularly monitored the health of our animals and consistently tested the milk for pathogens through a company specializing in that. Lyme disease was never even on the radar as far as diseases we studied/knew about or pathogens that they tested for. Sooo, although now I know some of that was not wise, it is what it is, and I am just thinking back to possible scenarios of transmission.

Even if we had known more about Lyme, I am certain it would’ve been the standard thing that one gets it from a tick bite only.

The general public, I have found in speaking with people about our daughters condition, knows as little as we did two years ago. Sadly. I wouldn’t think that most people give lyme a second thought (Or a first thought!) when eating meat or unprocessed dairy or even when they remove an attached tick.

It's been confirmed that human babies can contract Lyme from breastmilk, right? Or is that apocryphal? If that's correct, then I assume milk from other mammals could pass on Lyme and other pathogens.

I suspect exposure is only part of the equation

in that borrelial organisms are far more common than was once thought to be the case

the arrival of molecular diagnostic techniques like PCR has meant that in the last 10 or so years we have found out lots more about these organisms - and their real prevalence.

for instance, if you go back 10 or so years, Lyme disease in the UK was thought to be a very rare disorder only affecting a few hundred people a year and only those that lived in remote places like the Scottish highlands and maybe a few forests in the South of England.

it is now conclusively shown that these organisms infect all mammals, birds, and even reptiles and that rather than having to go into remote places to get exposed even ground-feeding garden birds carry both the ticks that carry borrelia and the borrelia themselves and so you are just as likely to get a tick bite in your garden or your local park.

thus i think it's clear that exposure has always been higher than we have so far been lead to believe and therefore i think it likely that some other factors as involved in how we get ill than only exposure.
Lyme disease is not a new organism and is not new to humans, it has been found in Egyptian mummies, and the iceman in the Italian alps going back 4000years or more and in animals way before that. so we have been in an arms race with organisms like this for millennia.

we also know some people get bitten by an infected tick and yet do not get ill, or get ill and have a kind of summer flu and then get better.

i suspect that there are factors in our 21st century life that are responsible for lowering of our resistance to this organism. candidates i would offer are:
-man-made chemicals disrupting our delicate immune systems, endocrine systems
-dietary changes - moving away from our natural template
-chronic stress / blurring the lines between work and rest / less sleep
-less physical activity and time outdoors - especially the younger generations
-technology interaction - screen time - constantly triggering our stress responses and taking over the lives of our young people
-resulting in changes in our microbiomes?

it's a long list of subtle but chronic insults to our natural organism that is sure to be having an effect of some sort

Seems like ND mentioned brucella at the beginning of 2020 when we first tested w her. I have not really thought of it as a factor, but, goodness, so many things affect lyme patients.
As far as the cows, I believe they were tested for brucella before we purchased them. However, if they were born here, I don’t believe we tested. I’ll have to go look at our records.

As I’ve been reading about this topic, it amazes me bc here I am thinking Blakeley could have been infected by drinking raw milk but yet many online report that they treat Lyme disease with raw milk. It makes sense to me both ways but for now, I’m glad we sold the cows and I’m not dealing with that right now. It is an interesting, yet disturbing thought process.
