rifabutin is a strong abx for lyme and bartonella infections particularly lyme persister cells so not surprising you are seeing relief from it. rifamycin (which rifampin and rifabutin both belong to) is its own class of antibiotics and has its own unique mechanism for dealing with bacteria.
everyone has abx that work better than others. for example the macrolide class (zithormax, biaxin) do very little for me but bactrim, minocycline and rifamycin class do much better so regardless of what other people's experiences are its what works (or doesn't work) for you is all that matters.
