Ursodiol prescribed for gallstone protection during IV antibiotics?

First, I would talk to your doctor. Ask if there is evidence that you currently have gallstones. Then ask if he has found many patients getting gall stones from the IV. I am sure that he has an answer.

I went to the doctor once and she said "have you have a tetanus shot? I said, "no, not in a long time." She said, "I think you need one." I went on to question her as to why and she had a patient that was working in the yard and came across some old wire, got scratched and got tetanus. So the doctor having to watch this tetanus patient, tetanus shots became her big "burn." Her fear was so real I did get the tetanus shot. And, it is written on the back of my driver's license because those suckers hurt and I don't want another any time soon.

Your doctor has a reason and you should find out if it rings true to your thinking. Anyway that is what I would do before I shelled out that amount of money.

I will run it by the doctor. I have a feeling what his/her response will be, but if I word in dollars and sense I might get the MD to open up. Thank you.

I know a few people who refused to take it and had to get their gallbladders removed. They were on IV rocephin for no more than three months. I'm taking the medication with malic acid and turmeric, all great for the gallbladder and I get a checkup every month. I'm looking good so far. If anything, take garlic everyday, olive leaf, and/or curcumin/tumeric or ginger and definetly malic acid to clear up gallstones and sludge.

oddity-You're going to be doing IV Rocephin, right? It hits the gallbladder really hard. You need to be on some form of gallbladder protection. My LLND also had me on Ursodiol. I was pulsing the Rocephin and only needed to take the Ursodiol the night before, morning of and night of my IV. That allowed my script to last a really long time. If you are not doing daily IV's see if you can adapt your Ursodiol schedule

In case jrspf doesn't see this and post - pulsing means not taking the antibiotics daily.

So there would be a pulsing schedule - for example: M/WF you would do the IV's

gall bladder are needed to process fats and if we hope to heal nerves this is kinda really important ...maybe adc has actigall...i do 3 or 4 days some times 2 but dose on days i dose the roceph .....feeling like a gb flush may be in order as i have been on it for a year..

Are you going picc or port?.. infuserve has the infusion oumps balls that are super convenient. ..ginger is a good gb herb too...keep us posted

I'm surprised that Ursodiol is so expensive. You might want to shop around on goodRX. A month's supply only cost me 10 dollars with insurance. You need gallbladder protection while on rochephin. Many people have lost their gallbladders while on this drug.

I have small fiber neuropathy too....a painful disease.

I was looking online today where I found some places a bit cheaper, but nothing in the $10 range. Your help is appreciated on this.

i got some cool shower covers online ...just remember to have plenty of alcohol wipes and caps for the end ...infuseve has em on half of the saline they send very handy ...

Oddity-I paid $10 or $15 for my Ursodiol rx also. The issue you may be dealing with is that every different level of insurance coverage and every insurance company can determine which tier of pricing they place a drug in. That significantly effects pricing. If my insurance company deemed it a tier 1 drug then I paid a small co pay. If your insurance company deems it a tier 3 drug then you may be paying a percentage. When that happens Costco or the like tend to be your best option.

I'll never forget playing with my grandpa's dog and seeing tics swelled up to the size and look of small grapes. That poor dog!

I have questioned that my issues may be herpes related from day one, although my testing (two Herpes WB) and conversations with leading experts in the field of STI's say no way. The reason I have suspected herpes is because I dated someone that disclosed to me she was HSV2 positive.

My symptoms did not start until after 2 months of being broken up with this person. I have never had a lesion in my genital area, only these strange red bumps on my buttocks, back and legs. I have shown these bumps to numerous doctors in different fields and to the people at Planned Parenthood. Again, all saying no way to herpes.

My breakup with this woman was very stressful. I had been suffering from extreme health anxiety for a month even prior to us breaking up. Then once we broke up I was convinced I would be left alone with an incurable STI.

My LLMD theorizes that this stressful event snowballed into what he is diagnosing me with today.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but I would definitely be making different decisions if I could wind the clock back 2 years. It's time to focus on the future and pray this diagnosis is correct and the treatment takes hold.

Oh, and my insurance said they paid $84.93 as their part of the bill.
