Research unrelated to lyme but non the less interesting in premise that toxins are responsible for amyloid and plaques. Amino acid trials in works.

yeah they have no idea what causes those plaques, better we should admit our ignorance.
Some very recent research other teams have done say the amyloid plaques are antibacterial in nature and brain's response to infection. The conclusion made a big fuss in the news last spring:

Actually, I think they are making good progress with these things. Not that long ago, my FIL passed from what they were calling Alzheimer's. No tests were done because, well, they said there was so little that could be done - so the fact that they are beginning to recognize that there are REAL causes to these things that can be addressed seems like good progress to me - at least they are admitting that there is more to learn!
