I've been reading about Lyme's sexual transmission and came across people claiming that open mouth kissing can transmit it! Is there any truth to this?

We don't know jenny. Some are being cautious about it, others not.

I would avoid kissing a child on the mouth, for sure. I think this is going to have to be a conscience issue until we get some facts.

Right now I can't even stand the idea of kissing anyone, but Lyme has ruined my libido anyway, as well as my affectionate side.

There's not scientific evidence of kissing transmitting ...but many people do believe it to be true.

Only anecdote but I kiss my fiancé all the time and she's not for Lyme yet. Lida Mattman on the other hand seems to think you can give someone Lyme through tears and a handshake but that seems alarmist

We'd all be sick if that was the case. I don't believe that it's as easy to catch as the common cold.

I don't either. I don't doubt spirochetes can be transmitted through all these places, but it's a whole different thing than actual disease transmission

A handshake??? Wow, that's definitely a little over the top! As has been said, kissing has not been determined to be a way of transmitting these infections - but that may also be determined as to just how much saliva a person comes into contact with too. The thing is, we just don't know.

Caution is a good thing when it comes to this, but paranoia is never helpful. People need to touch and spreading information that makes people paranoid of touching another person is never helpful.
