Stopped abx (mino+rifampin) couple days due to herx, now my taste buds are going crazy. Metallic taste in my mouth, and right/wrong/whatever I stopped on way home at McDonalds and bought a big mac. They got that sauce on it, not sure what its made of, but I swear it tasted like camphor (the stuff you put on cold sores) which ...and this might be a mental thing but my lip actually tingled like there was camphor on it! My tongues a little dry. So whats going on here?

Only other meds I take are levothyroxine and xanax. Never had a problem with these. Has to be the abx, but seriously how could stopping them cause this?!?! And how do I get my taste back?

on bactrim i lost my sense of taste and smell for a few weeks ...freeked me out ...does MacDonald have hormone free range chicken with quinoa in a gluten free sauce?

may be olefactory nerves ? why did you stop are?
you on nystatin or diflucan for yeasts?

Not sure whats in the sauce, but I hope its not chicken or quinoa, it isnt supposed to be..lol.

I stopped abx due to nerve pain and digestive issues. Not taking any meds other than the two I posted.

Well, this may be a reach, but I had remembered that on Buhner's protocol site, loss of taste was mentioned, maybe it's related to that, and Buhner had it wrong that it's not related to the protocol, but more as Blue said, it's part of a nerve related response???

Here you can see Buhner says that it's not a common reaction, but that some do have it. He's suspecting (back in 2010) that it was a reaction to the herbs, but maybe it's more of a nerve reaction????

Thanks for the link Traveler. That makes sense. Hopefully my taste returns. I really wanted to start back on the abx today, but it might be a good idea to give it to the end of the week to see if the taste buds return? I did notice some neck pain right before I stopped abx, it must have been hitting me harder than I thought. Today, finally after detoxing like a madman and loading up on probiotics and bowls full of greek yogurt, my bloating and digestive pains are lowering substantially. Bowel movements are more regular instead of constipating. Its very apparent to me now more than ever that gut palsy is a very real thing, and that the gut has been one of my hardest hit areas. But this taste thing was really scaring me, never had that happen before, at least that I can contribute to nerves. Thanks again for the link, makes more sense to me. I can calm down a little now. Appreciate it!

Yep, I suffer/battle with gut palsy on a daily basis still - believe me, it's very real!! It's definitely one of my hardest hit, and longest affected areas.

I've heard of pharma meds creating a situation where the taste sensations are way off, but the people I was talking to weren't being treated for these infections. It could still be the meds, but I don't recall many people reporting that on here, but maybe others will?

So a number of reasons why it could be happening from what I can see.

Taste buds are working again! Unfortunately, nerve pain and bloating is back, seems more than ever. I gotta pay bills, so I am back at work right now. Trying to work through the pain and let me tell ya, its a chore! My heart rate has been at 107-110 for the last 2 hours. Not sure if its because I keep moving, or because im in that much pain. Doesnt matter much I guess, I gotta keep moving or I wont be able to stand the pains.

If it aint one thing its another!
