Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a while as we work through Buhner's herbs for Bartonella. We're so grateful to everyone for the accumulated knowledge here.
We're about to start antibiotics (for Bartonella). I have some questions about timing.
It would be great if someone could confirm the following are correct:
- Rifampin - away from food (empty tummy)
- Doxycycline - with food but away from milk products and anything else with calcium (and magnesium? other minerals?)
- Azithromycin - with or without food (it doesn't matter)
- Nystatin - after food and /or just before bed - the aim is to have it in the digestive tract as long as possible
The doctor gave us some instructions, but when the notes and prescript
ions arrived in the mail, not everything was quite there. This is all correct.
Nystatin should be taken a few hours away from the others, as it can act as a binder.
The reason they say to take Doxy with food is because it can cause an upset stomach. I know it did for me. If tolerated, I'd try it on an empty stomach, since there's a lot of foods that contain calcium and magnesium that aren't milk.
