Question about our pets and ticks

I have a question (what else is new):

We treat our dog. He gets the tick drops that go on his body and we have a tick collar on him.

Does this mean that ticks will still jump on him but he won't get Lyme?

BUT that those same ticks can then jump from him to us?

OR does it mean ticks won't go on him?

I haven't seen any on him - he's all white, but wondering if he is bringing them inside.

No matter what treatment you use, the tick must still bite the animal in order to get the treatment.

And yes, they can still transmit diseases. Treating pets lessens the risk considerably for the pet and the people though, and if they drop off the pet, then it's a doomed tick anyway, as the poison will be effective at killing them, but it doesn't happen right away.

Doubling up on preventatives though could pose risks for your dog, just be aware of that too.

Ticks don't jump. The have 8 legs and generally they hold onto anything with 2 legs and when something brushes by them, the other 6 legs grab on with the hope that it will be a great host. Questing is what this is called.

How can I protect my pet from ticks?

Frontline Plus, K9 Advantix II, and Revolution will kill ticks. The Preventic Tick Collar kills and repels ticks.

If I'm using a tick product, why are there ticks on my pet?

It takes about 24-48 hours for a tick to absorb a fatal dose of pesticide. After death, some ticks remain attached because their barbed mouth parts don't detach. This can frustrate pet owners who feel the flea & tick product is not effective. It probably is; it's just slower than we're used to given the rapid rate at which these products kill fleas.
