Son herxing bad. Has esophagus pain/wheezing. Anything?

My son has been herxing all week.

His throat hurts a lot. He thinks it is his esophagus.

His voice sounds like he has laryngitis, has some wheezing and trouble breathing, but airways definitely working.

Also achey, etc...

What can I do to help him? Will acid reflux OTC help?

If he's really struggling, lower his dosages of his meds, and start regular use of binders, and increase any detoxing you can and increase his liquid intake to help flush things better.

If it's just scary and fairly painful, you can use things like Alka Seltzer Gold (but the real issue isn't likely tied to acid reflux - unless he is honestly having a lot of that), and other detoxing methods to lower the symptoms of the herx.

I sounds like his Babesia symptoms are what has increased, and he's treating Babs right now, isn't he?

I hope this is short lived and he's feeling better quickly!!!

Thank you. It's been quite a week.

LLMD suggested we not lower meds and he hasn't had any break due to the new, fresh bite.

He isn't treating Babs. J clinic wants more focus on treating Lyme, They thought Dr. R was too focused on Babesia and didn't hit Lyme hard enough.

Right now he is on Mino/Amoxy. Have not added in Sepra/Tinda yet. BUT he is on Mino/Amox. every day.

Last night was so bad I didn't give him night dosage of anything and I haven't given him morning dosage yet. He just woke up.

I'm having a bad herx too so in my bed and have to get up to make food. Ugh. The two of us smile

Oh that's right! How could I forget? (I didn't really, I'm just not awake - bad night)

Since he hasn't had any meds in a while, start with the binders, and give him a double dose (watch for constipation though!!!) Hopefully that will lower his symptoms enough that he will feel a bit better soon!

Hang in there! That's one thing I've not had to deal with - 2 people in the same house herxing at the same time!

Thanks. I do have to give him meds this morning. He only missed a dosage last night.

Both LLMD's said not to miss any since he has a new bite.

What should I do?

Also, he hates AC and he has to eat so can't even give that to him right now.

I guess I could give him breakfast, wait two hours and then give it to him.

Sorry YOU had a bad night. Oh now. Is it a new moon or something?

New moon in on Wednesday, but I think mine is more related to the storms moving through our area. Everyone in my house had a bad night -I was awake to hear it! Ugh.

Well, he can't continue if he's herxing too much. So if you feel he is really herxing too much, then you need to do what you need to do to keep him in treatment. For me, if that means I may need to miss a dose once in a while to control herxing so I can stay the course, then I do so. But, that's not what his docs have said, so you have to make the choice.

I like AC because it works well for me with no side effects (as long as I watch for constipation), but use whatever he will use that will work quickly for him. If he's really suffering, then he will agree to use whatever he needs to and that works well for him in order to get through this.

Ok good to know so I'll skip meds today. You know me and I am more 'herbs' but with the new bite, I feel fear has gotten the best of me.

He just ate so I'll give AC in 1.5 hours, not sure I can wait two since he will then be eating lunch at 3:30pm.

Storms - tornadoes or Tstorms? Kind of cool but not if they keep you up.

How am I ever going to get him up to full dosage. He just got to full dosage of Amox/Mino, but still need to add in Sepra/Tinda. Guess next cycle. Ugh.

Gargle with warm salt water for the sore throat.

Breathe Easy tea for the wheezing.

Make him soup with bone broth being the liquid.

I know you don't feel good, but if you drain a can of chicken noodle soup and add it to bone broth and heat it, it is so good for him and easy for you. Just in case it is acid reflux, which I am doubtful on that one.

And it won't hurt him to take ibuprofen for the achiness.

THANK YOU! Didn't you have these esophagus issues? I seem to remember it was you.

I gave him throat coat tea. I do have Breathe easy or deep breath so thanks - will do.

I'll have him gargle right now. Why do I forget the simplest things?

I also add bone broth to the regular soup but wouldn't have thought of that for him either. My brain is not working today.

I'll give him Advil. What do you guys think of the OTC acid reflux meds? I know it is just a bandaid but can it be harmful?

Good thing you ladies are sharing your brain with me today.

Keep them coming, even if they are simple. I am thinking-impaired today!

I would not give him OTC for acid reflux unless you are POSITIVE he has that.

Is he throwing up in his throat? And is it because he is excessively coughing or from eating?

And sometimes we always look for the hard answers when we really should start with the easy stuff.

I can be so guilty of this. I overthink stuff sometimes when it is me or hubby, but I'm so much calmer and rational when it is someone else.

Oh, I had a lyme sore throat off and on while treating. I did do the warm salt water. I also did Olba's lozenges. They are very mentholish and he may not like them.

I also did Soothing Throat Spray by Herb Pharm. It tastes horrible, but I got used to it. Years ago we had a horrible bug doing around our hub and many of us were using that Soothing Throat Spray got well faster than those that didn't. We had our own little unblind testing going on. LOL

Do be careful with those herbal teas - remember they are herbs and he may react to them. If he is used to using them, things may be fine -just watch him.

When my throat (not my lymph glands) was absolutely on fire, I would use Chloraseptic throat spray - tasted soo nasty!! But it numbs immediately - it numbs everything it gets on, so be careful with it! LOL! I've numbed my tongue all too often!

Before you add that can of soup to your bone broth, read the ingredients to be sure he's not getting something that he reacts to (sorry, my soy allergy haunts me, so I always think of reading labels).

Be sure he drinks lots and lots of fluids today.

He is throwing up in his throat a little bit. Not today, but did last night.

Today it still hurts. He describes it as 'burning throat that feels coated' and he has a wheeze today.

He is used to Throat Coat but right now refusing: tea, salt water, and soup smile

He is having a Halls menthol cough drop. He doesn't want to detox either. I surrender.

P.S.I KNOW that chlorseptic throat spray - brings back old memories. I will look into Soothing throat spray.

Did he eat and then go to bed? Sometimes that can cause acid reflux. Not enough time for digestion before lying down.

You can have him sleep in the recliner or put some wood under the head of his bed to elevate the top just a little. Not too much.

You may have to play 'hard ball' with him, in that you ask how long he wishes to feel like this, since he has chosen to not do what he knows he needs to (detox)? That's what I have to do to myself some days to do the detoxing I know I need. It really is my choice - but I choose to not feel like warmed over poo! LOL!

Brings back old memories? Memories of gagging? LOL!!! I HATE the stuff, but boy does it work when you are desperate!

And Huddie, make sure you are taking care of yourself today also....

It is okay to tell him you feel horrible and can't do anything either. Maybe just liquids and watching movies for today. Rest is always good!!

Yes! He always eats right before bed because it is when he takes his meds.

He likes to eat late because otherwise he awakes with a hollow feeling in his stomach (I had this with Doxcy).

The other night I heard something and he was on our sofa eating crackers at 3:30am due to nausea.

I'll try and move up the eating timetable.

Can he or will he do a banana? Put that by his bed for the middle of the night and the crackers are okay also. I am a huge soda cracker girl.

Now I am off to play with hubby.... We don't know where we are going but just taking off for a ride. He is feeling good today and wants to get out but doesn't want to overdo. So we go for a ride in the car to somewhere..... It is always fun to see where we end up.

I have tired. I tell him people heal faster if they detox and they herx less. His response "I'm still going to feel bad but eventually heal."

I think he hates all the immediate stuff (detoxing, drinking this, taking that) and because he doesn't see a difference right away he is just fed up.

Honestly, I have had weeks when I'm like "Why bother, Lyme groundhog day who cares?" Difference is that I'm an adult so I just do it.

Going in now for round two - who will win this round? mad

Glad your husband is having a good day. Go enjoy it. Car rides are the best. You feel like you are out but you don't over exert.

When the day comes that all three of us feel good on the very same day I will cue up the angel music.

Actually, you can tell him that the herxing can get to dangerous, life threatening levels - so it's not just about being functional or not. If he wants to see things that support that fact, I can provide them for you, as I wanted to know the real dangers of herxing when I was in that 'herx from H3ll' many years ago. It's also why I started pushing detoxing on this forum and warning others of this potential. It's not okay to just ride out a herx no matter how bad it gets - really.

Otherwise, he sounds like a typical teen! LOL! Best of luck getting through the day!!!

Your mouth to God's ears. I have said it all.

I told him he has die-off/toxins just circulating in his blood stream and that the detoxing will accelerate their departure.

Usually he's good. I think that on some level he is doing the "I feel bad anyway what's the difference."

I just told him "No detox, no screen later." He just chugged an AKG. It's a start.

I need to channel you Trav!

Sorry you had Herx from H - for you to say that it must have been bad since you surrender to the herxes much better than I ever will.

Huddie - i'm sorry your son is herxing like that...hopefully you can get him to detox more...to help.

When is he finished with the daily meds for the new tick bite? Is it one more week? and then he can go back to pulsing?

Not sure when they said to return to pulsing. I'll call Monday.

I didn't give him meds last night or this morning.

Will give them tonight. He is still on Mino/Amoxy. They switched the Doxcy and said the existing mixture is fine.

When do you think I should add in Cepra? It was to be next week but now he hasn't had any breaks.

If you start back on the original protocol on Monday - I would just stick with mino/amoxy and see how he is.

Has it been just one week of the everyday dosing for the new tick bite?
I though it was two weeks of everyday dosing he was prescribed? (I could be wrong)


Is his current dosing 100 mg mino twice daily with amoxy?

Sorry y'all are having a rough time Huddie.

If it's indeed reflux, mastic gum and dgl have been very helpful to me. I have similar symptoms to your son with the throat thing. For me it's not reflux as it's episodic, lasts a couple hours, usually in the evening. It happens when I'm upright and no burping or repeating food. Voice goes hoarse, vague burning sensation in larynx and just below, dry cough, almost wheezy, but not quite.

I've never had asthma before so I don't know how to describe that. I don't know what it is. It's so vague, I've had a hard time explaining it. I suspect it may either be air hunger or a paresthesia flaring up in the vagus nerve. That would explain the hoarseness.
