I don't have high blood pressure, and I'm not on Benicar for high blood pressure. Benicar downregulates calcitriol, which I believe Lyme upregulates to keep the body in an inflamed state, so that Lyme can feed. I felt better, almost normal except still arthritis and clumsy dropping things, within 24 hours of starting Benicar, and I started no other meds, but this one at the time. I suspect the downregulated calcitriol is what my body needed to put it back in control of my immune system. Benicar also upregulates Vitamin D receptors VDR, which releases peptides that activate the immune system to fight Lyme. That's what I get out of the article below. I assume the Lyme is still there, and there is now beginning a pitched battle going on between Lyme and my immune system. I'm on 14 different supplements which are supposed to help me win: NAC, Adrenal Enzymes, B-complex, Buffered Vitamin C, Zinc, COQ10, Probiotic, R-Lipoic Acid, Selenium, Collagen 2, Iodoral, Chelated Magnesium, 5HTP, Vitamin D3. I'll be adding Acetyl L Carnitine and Vitamin E if I can take it.
