Flagyl or Tinidazole which kicked your butt the hardest?

For those who've been on both flagyl and tinidazole, how long were you on for each and which one kicked your butt more? Curious as I was on Tinidazole for 2 separate 2 month stretches (pulsed 3x a week) and now I'm on Flagyl but only taking it 2 days a week out of 3 weeks and its kicking my proverbial butt much more than the tinidazole ever did.

Seems odd to me because you read that tinidazole is a more recent drug and is better in many ways over flagyl. Also Sapi's research supports it as well for killing all forms of Lyme.

I've never taken Flagyl neither... only Tini 2 days a week like Girlie. Tini was part of my protocol for 10 months.

Most LLMDs prefer Tini since for most patients it's better tolerated. Tini is also more expensive than than Flagyl, so some insurance companies only cover Flagyl in their formulary.

I've taken flagyl and tini.

I started with flagyl 2 days once every three weeks. Kicked my butt!! Used flagyl for about 4 months, i think.

Then switched to tini for same....2 days once every three weeks. Still herx but not as bad as flagyl, although this past week was a tini week and spent 2 1/2 days in bed on the tini days.

Flagyl gave me unwanted thoughts, just super depressed and feeling low and hopeless, crying a lot. Probably a brain herx but Dr didn't like that so she switched me to tini.

Oh also, flagyl (here is where tmi is inserted-sorry) made it hurt like crazy to pee, so bad I would hold it in as long as possible because I just couldn't bear the pain. By the time the pain when I peeped stopped it was time to take the flagyl again. Tini doesn't do that to me. I wondered if it is a side effect of flagyl and other people have that happen or not.

I've been on both but I can't say I've felt anything one way or another.

I will say this though:

Typically when I'm on antibiotics and I look at my blood under the microscope, I don't see many spirochetes but I do see a bunch of cysts.

When I'm on Flagyl it's the opposite: I don't see many cysts but do find spirochetes swimming everywhere.

So there's no doubt that the Flagyl is an anti-cystic agent for me.

I add Tinidazole to the mix next week. Not going to lie, this is the one that scares me. I'm currently on Ceftin (1000mg / day) and Doxy (200mg / day) and finally doing pretty well. I will be pulsing the Tinidazole 3 days on, 4 days off. I will start with 250mg / day but will need to build up to 1000mg / day.

I have heard that Tinidazole is generally better tolerated than Flagyl. But of course, everyone is different.

Don't be afraid. Just be a detox demon!! The tini hit me hard this past week because I think I went into it detoxing well but when I start to herx bad I take to my bed and then lay there like a sloth and don't drink, or move, detox, or anything. I just stare into space not helping myself. On those days it was : Lyme 1000 me: 0.

Gah! I blame myself for letting it win, cause I didn't even fight it with detox.

Just know to be vigilant about the detox.

I also find that I need to also be aware that for me the flagyl or tini seem to make me feel run down sort of herxy for many days afterwards....up to a week. I plan ahead to not fill my schedule that week with anything that will tire me...or stress me.
