OT ~ Neti Pot Anyone? Sinus Headaches?

Hi all,

I have a good friend who is suffering from sinus headaches. I have been doing some reading on Neti Pots and how they help.

Has anyone been using a Neti Pot and if so has it helped you (either with allergies, sinuses, etc.). Would appreciate any information!

I and hubby have used a neti pot for years. I generally only use mine during the high pollen seasons here.

It is extremely helpful.

Just make sure she doesn't use tap water. She should really use sterile or distilled water. You can boil water and let it cool also.

I don't use table salt in mine either. I use a good quality Himalayan pink salt (should be extra fine grains) and if the salt burns a little, I add a pinch of baking soda to mine. This burn can depend on the irritation of the mucous membranes (raw ness) in my nose.

It took me a couple of times to get the hang of putting water in my nose and letting it come out the other nostril. But it isn't bad at all.

Also, keep the neti pot super clean. You don't want bacteria growing in a pot that you pour into your nose.

The baking soda neutralizes the water, especially if there is any iodine in the salt. Iodine will definitely burn my nose.

After I use mine I just dry it well with a towel so the water doesn't sit and make bacteria. Nothing goes in the Neti pot but salt water so it doesn't get really dirty in the bowl. The nose piece is easy to wash because only the outside touches your nose. Hubby and I have his and hers. We don't share. But we have separate bathrooms too.

I use a q-tip for that end.

And just air dry it the rest of the way.

Update: My friend has been using the neti pot and guess what? Her sinus headaches are gone! She stopped taking the pills she used to take and is just sooooooo happy!

I ordered a neti pot for myself as allergy season will soon be approaching.

I use sterile water, sea salt, xylitol and a pin prick of johnson's baby shampoo which works great against biofilms.
