I never understood why it is the policy of the moderators on this site to limit the number of responses to a particular post or topic. If a post is getting numerous responses that means that it is resonating with a lot of people who feel the need to contribute. This is a good thing. Why artificially limit the number of responses. It just kills a very active topic and makes it harder for future users to follow a discussion that may be particularly helpful to them. On most discussion sites there is an option to search by number of replies, which is a search function that should be available here. A high number of replies usually indicates that the answers are coming from different people with different perspectives which can help the reader to arrive at more informed and better considered decisions. Even if a thread lasts for 100 pages this should be no problem, if that is the level of interest that the topic generates. Multi page posts are no harder on a server than individual separate posts. Using basic text as this site uses, the same mount of data is used to create a post whether it is part of a 1 reply post or a 100 reply post. The policy of limiting responses and locking long threads isnt helpful to readers looking for as many answers they can get from as many different posters as possible. This should be reconsidered and changed.

Regardless of your very logical question about the server load, the Hw.com policy is to limit the pages so that's what we do. I think we can discuss that policy but posting on the thread after being asked not to probably isn't the most respectful approach.

And I'm not following how or why this would confuse anyone or limit engagement. We start a new thread - and continue the same discussion on a new thread. No one is being censored.

Not only does the moderator post the link to the new thread where the conversation can be continued, but the link to the previous conversation is also provided so that others who might come across "Part 2" or 3 or 4 - can also go back and read the initial part of the conversation and follow along. I find this much easier to manage than 30-page threads, quite frankly. Been around these forums for over a decade, now.

I agree that it would be nice to have additional features but the site is what it is. Not all sites use the same architecture.

Logmoss - It's a policy that the Admin of this site has set up. The Moderators are just following what the Admin has requested.

We are not discouraging anyone from continuing to post on the topic - we are just setting it up with a second, even a third thread if necessary so the conversation can continue and still be in line with what the Admin has requested.

Regarding features on other sites - that would be a question for the Admin.
