I am working with a LL Naturopath. We had discussed doing a provoking agent before test. He had suggested doxycycline 100mg 2x per day for 2 weeks. I did a quick scan of the forum. Looks as if some people use Olive leaf extract instead. Looking to hear what other people have experienced. If I go the olive leaf route how long should I take it before testing? I have been having possible signs of lyme for about ten years, and have had encounters with ticks before.

Hi craigallen - welcome to our community.

Question: After the doxycycline - how long will you be off it before you test?

I have read about members using the Olive leaf extract. I will do a search on this forum...if no one responds about it soon.

That is a lot of testing. That must be costing you a lot.

I know for the Lyme testing - many (most?) just get the Lyme WB IgM and IgG for $210 total.
I'm not familiar with the co-infection tests - to comment on them.

Hello Girlie,
Not sure how long I will be off of it before I test. I am new to this. I just assume I take it until I test. Was not aware that there should be a space of time, between last taking ovoking agent and testing. I had called igenex and I asked, what test should I get to cover anything, that I could possibly get from a tick. Those were the tests they recommended.

Just to add on to original post. On of the things I am wanting to know is peoples experience with prescription vs natural. As far as provoking agents, how long, and dosage. I do have some idea of dosage from what I have read so far.

Also I am open to other ideas of testing with igenex. I would like to save money if at all possible. One thing I forgot to ask igenex. Can the western blot give any indication that an individual should test for the co infections? I would assume testing the co infections is a good idea. Also wondering if someone could have a co infection without having lyme? If not then it would make sense to just do the western blot, and then go from there.

Is this IGeneX? Hope so.

I did the provocation with Olive Leaf Extract -

Like you, I was undx for a very long time - 16 yrs. I finally found my LLMD and my ELISA was negative, of course. So I took OLE for 5-6 wks and retested using the IGeneX WB and had a CDC+ result.

Generally, you need to get past a few lifecycle of the Lyme with treatment and with provocation. In vitro, it's assumed to be 7 days but in utero it might be longer.

That's true. Provocation probably doesn't work for everyone. I think it's probably better to use OLE, which should stimulate the immune response, not replace it.

That's why I asked how long he would be off before testing.

It may be that only a few days is needed?

That is the theory behind Dr. J's drug holidays - take away the drugs that are doing the job and the immune system kicks in.
