Eyes suddenly become itchy and bright red

Every few weeks or months my eyes will suddenly get bright red and extremely itchy. I flush them with water and within an hour they're back to normal.

I haven't previously made any connection to this and Lyme, but thinking on it tonight I'm not sure whether it was ever something that happened before my diagnosis.

Has anyone experienced anything similar, or have any thoughts?

Mine seems to be connected to Bartonella. I get this any time I'm tired or herxing from Bart. Sometimes they burn and tear up a lot too. When the tearing up and burning get bad, I use moisturizing eye drops - one with no boric acid as the preservative.

I will second the Bart suspicion but cannot know until I have treated for Bart sufficiently. It seems to be a common coinfection of Lyme with specific traits in the way it presents and how it can lead to other infections.

Mine initially responded to Doxy which leads me to now suspect Bart all the more as it seems to recur even after hitting it with multiple antibiotics that are commonly used for eye infections (like Augmentin).

I hope to gain a deeper understanding of these eye symptoms and the condition which cause it as I progress in my Bart treatment.
