A Japanese woman has died of a tick-borne disease caught from a cat, in what is thought to be the first such mammal to human transmission.

How sad. She was just trying to help a feral cat.

Oh gosh. I've been feeding an adorable stray kitten this past week. She was so afraid the first few days but now has really warmed up to me. Guess I should keep my distance just to be safe.

My parents have been feeding feral cats that took over the neighborhood. They live under their deck (the cats... LOL).

And of course they both have weird diagnoses in the past 10 yrs... blood disease, very strange skin disorders, who knows what else...

My Lyme dx was not a "learning opportunity" for them.

It's a deadly virus... One more on the list of viruses transmitted by ticks...

Tick borne VIRUSES are really killers, unfortunately.

My daughter got TBE, it was THE WORST tick-borne infection.

Now there is Powassan, Togothoviruses, now this nasty SFTS??
