Hey guys,

So a friends husband has been feeling like poop for a year, same symptoms as me mainly. Once she told me this I told her to get him tested for Lyme. He did and the only band that came back was lgg 58.

Now what do I tell them? Is it worth going to see the llmd or is 58 not Lyme?

Ive read that band 58 may be a European strain of Lyme.

Was it Igenex WB?

Msybe have him do the Horowitz questionnaire and see how he scores.

I would tell him to do an Igenext test. If he's interested enough to test in the first place - he may as well do a test from a lab that specializes in tick-borne disease testing.

Or Armin Labs (since he's in Europe)

He's not in Europe he's in the US. My doctor tests thru igenix so i referred him. He's gonna make an appt

I had Band 58 show up positive years ago and my old LLMD told me it was a heat shock protein but could indicate lyme.

Last year, my current lyme doctor looked at my old tests and told me that many lyme doctors are seeing a link between band 58 and Babesia. For what it is worth, she told me that most of her babesia patients have a positive band 58. Just another thought to consider. I treated lyme and bart for 4 years before any babesia symptoms showed up.

Oh wow thanx for the info loutucky. I tested positive for babesia and I had band 66 positive. Is band 66 also indicative of babesia do you know?

He has many many many of the symptoms I experience. So I wouldn't rule out if he had babs.

I have 58 band positive, am told it is European strain? (Borrelia Guarinni? sp) or heat shock protein of Babesia? I don't know but I still feel infected.

I have band 58 too. Never been to Europe but I have been clinically diagnosed with babesia.

With international travel comes international strains of many things.

Band 58 is thought to represent Borrelia afzelii and Band 66 is thought to represent Borrelia hermsii - which is common in the Western US.

Wow!! This is all very interesting. I have positives for both IGG and IGM on band 58. I've never been to Europe. I will definitely keep this in mind, though, especially about Babesia. I'm convinced I have Bartonella but totally unsure about Babesia. I have had air hunger and night sweats (not severe), but I've never had high fevers, only recurring low grade fevers around 99 F. I'll keep Babesia in mind. I'm trying to use Sida Acuta for bartonella. That takes care of babesia, too, so I should be covered. I'll pay attention to my symptoms as I go along and see if anything comes out.

We can also have asymptomatic infections.

A couple of top-notch, well-known LLMD's treat all three B's - instead of trying to figure it out along the way.

The other thing that we have to remember is that, unless otherwise specified, the Lyme/Borrelia Western Blot does not measure any antibodies against any other infection other than Lyme. I know that there are rumors about it showing bands for Bart or Babs, but the test is not designed to do anything other than diagnose Lyme - and only 2 or 3 of the over 100 strains of Lyme in the US.

This is important to note because often co-infections are just as bad (most LLMDs may agree worse) than Bb. So many strains can go undiagnosed because of these persistently faulty tests. If/when I get the money together I'm going to get a full panel workup at IGeneX because I feel like I still don't know exactly what I have, only that I've been definitively exposed to Borrelia OspA (31kda--very specific, see Schuller, Horowitz) along with 58kda, 41, etc and co et al and who knows what else! Would rather not shoot in the dark if I don't need to.
