Looks like for minority the body chelates calcium from bones(hello osteoporosis) to destroy the extra D1.25 which is generated due to the rapid D25 -> D1.25 conversion as a result of D3 supplementation.
Thats why many supplements for D25 come with calcium. Which is not without the risks too - google D25 calcium supplement risk of kidney stones. A lot of research..
So yeah, its complex.

p.s. there still could be the benefit of cautiously pulsing D3(if D25 is very low), checking D25 blood levels to prevent overdose and PHP plus PTH hormones to avoid hypercalcemia(osteoporosis).
