it needs to grow in soil, for at least 12 days before the sugars convert to complex carbs, and for the grass to absorb minerals from the soil. tray grown with no soil tastes cloyingly sweet for this reason.
your mileage may vary.
edit: also you need to do at least 4 oz, preferably 6 or more to have real benefits. one or two is just not enough.
