I read in a thread on this site yesterday about the significance of the different WB bands. Sorry, I can't remember the specific thread.

Anyhow, it said that a positive on band 58 can indicate Ehrlichiosis. I have had positive Ehrlichia tests from Quest and Igenex, but my most recent Ehrlichia test from Igenex came back negative.

All WB tests I've had have come back with a positive on band 58. The most recent WB I had came back with an even stronger positive on band 58. This WB was done at the same time as the Ehrlichia test that came back negative.

So, my question is ... if 58 indicates Ehrlichia, which test should be considered more accurate? The WB or the Ehrlichia? I have an appt w/LLMD in a few weeks and will ask him the same question.

This is all so confusing!

I tested positive on band 58 IgG and IgM too. But I tested negative for Ehrlichia through Quest. I always heard band 58 could be heat shock Borrelia or a European type. I don't think they really know for sure what band 58 means. On the other hand, I've heard coinfection tests can be inaccurate though I've been going by my Ehrlichia test and assuming I don't have Ehrlichiosis. It's too bad the tests aren't more accurate. And it would be interesting to know more about band 58.

Won't it be nice when "they" get this all properly figured out?!

Will post again if I learn anything noteworthy at my next appt.

I hadn't heard band 58 indicates Ehrlichia.


I have read that band 58 could be a European strain - Borrelia Afzelii.


Even if it is indicative of Ehrlichia - that is a co-infection of lyme, transmitted by ticks.


And antibiotic treatment for Lyme generally covers Ehrlichia (doxycycline/tetracycline)
