Less daylight and we want to eat...its that hibernating feeling in the north

Its that time of year again in the Northern Hemisphere, more so the further north you are. The bears got it right, and the're just about ready to bunker down, I dont blame them.

Eating:
For those on a clean diet, this is a good time to remember and keep a good stock healthy snacks, just in case you dont want to go thru the snow to the grocery store. I failed this time last year and rebounded with the cleanest diet I ever ate.

T-day and x-mas socials are difficult, this is the year I will say no to all that tasty stuff I should avoid LOL. Relatives / friends will try to persuade me. Nope.

Less light:
And mostly cloudy days till Feb. Then northerners deal with sub zero F temps. This is pretty hard on some people. I just try to tackle it head on, but will admit I get unmotivated and somewhat ghoulish from the lack of sun.

Never tried a light box (thats a lot of time too), but thought about the different types of bulbs for regular light fixtures that could potentially do the same where I'm sitting/standing - like food prep time (kitchen) or computer desk overhead light. I researched this before my old hard-drive blew. Brains full- I don't remember.

Astroman - I think the HUE light bulbs are full spectrum. Isn't that what the SAD lights are?

You can slowly change over the regular bulbs in your home.


They are expensive though...but are supposed to last a very long time.
(My son uses the Phillips hue bulbs so I know their costly)

Hmm...Upon goggling HUE I only read people getting exited over the dimibility of them somehow connected to smart phone apps. (I want a smart phone app that will shut up the neighbors dogs LOL). Didnt read anything about those being similar to sad lights...yet.

**I also read recently that your vit D-25 levels doesn't matter if you don't get sunlight, as sunlight activates it. New to me.** Upping my D-25 level from 35 to 60 four years ago did nothing that I could feel. Still take it though, 30% more in winter, maybe thats pointless.

I love the change in seasons. They change so quickly the older I get.

Most people like fall, its what follows though.

The further you get from coastal areas, the longer overcast skys remain. North central US can have all gray overcast sometimes two to three weeks long in Nov, Dec, and Jan. And then most have a work commute both ways in the dark for mid winter (8.5 hrs of daylight about one month).

How do Alaskans do no daylight for , what, one month?

If it just fast forwarded to one month of pure winter with snow it would be fun, like Feb, when there is more sunny days too. 15F with sun is almost nice with no wind. The days (sometimes a week) it wont get above zero F are brutal. After -25F it all feels the same (no feeling LOL). I will always prefer mowing to shoveling LOL.

I really have no idea how people in the snow belt that DONT do snow sports remain sane through the winter! I would move for sure if that were the case. For me, Fat biking makes it more tolerable, a headlight cast on a snowy is pretty cool itself.

Technically, spring is on its way.!!!
