Hi, I was diagnosed in June with a Western Blot, IGG negative, only showing band 41. IGM positive on bands 41 and 23. Started immediately on antibiotics, slowly building up to current regime of 600 mg of Omnicef twice a day and 100 mg of zithromax twice a day.

From my understanding (which was from a VERY irate and demeaning infectious disease dr), IGM is only a sign of a recent infection while IGG would show more chronic infection. I have been under the care of an LLMD for 5-6 months on very high doses of antibiotics and was just re-tested for a western blot and the same bands showed up, positive only on the IGM. Could this be a false positive, since the infection is not recent? Thank you in advance!

In chronic cases, IgM can show positive.

Mine did after 14 months of symptoms.

Dr J explains writes about it on his website.

"In virtually all infections, the IgM class of antibody (immunoglobulin) appears first and therefore represents a marker for an early infection. In most immune models, the IgM antibody gives way to the well-known IgG antibody class, usually regarded as the major enduring antibody response in chronic infectious diseases or other immune models. In almost all infection models, after just a few weeks, the IgM antibody level wanes to the point of being non-detectable and does not recur. However, a confounding fact in Bb infections is that the IgM antibody may persist for years, a very unusual situation in most disease states"
