Hi all, was recently diagnosed with Lyme Disease after being diagnosed with and treated for RA for 5 years, despite my persistence that I was declining, rather than improving. I also have an active ebv, coxsackie virus, methylation issues, and probably a parasite. I'm sure there's more. This is beyond my current naturopath's expertise, but the handful of ILADS doctors and lyme-literate doctors I have contacted in LA are $600 for the first visit and ~$350 for follow-ups, plus meds and treatments. I have not had any treatment yet so I don't feel like I need to be doing experimental or the newest treatments, but I also need someone who really knows how to treat Lyme in addition to these other issues. Any suggestions? I'm stuck! Thank you smile

Hi MichyLA - welcome to our community.

Well, if you want to be treated by a LL Dr., I don't know if you'll find one that charges less. Maybe someone in the LA area will have an option for you.


If you want to go the herbal route...you can try one of Buhner's recommended herbalists..they do phone appointments and they don't cost that much.

But, if it's antibiotics you want...then you will need a LLND or LLMD.

Thank you Girlie! And appreciate the welcome. I have been lurking for a few weeks now as I've been learning more about this diagnosis. It's totally overwhelming. I don't know that I want antibiotics. Every docs I have connected with deals with so much stuff (which I guess I probably need), but just the visits alone will end up being $5K. And if you have follow up questions, it's $175 for a 15-minute phone appointment. It feels a bit opportunist and isn't sitting that well with me. And I haven't done any treatment at all yet, so I don't feel that it's necessary to jump into ozone therapy or hyperbaric chambers just yet!

I've been considering Buhner, haven't decided yet.

Are those the standard going rates as far as you know? I have only been looking in the LA area so far, but I'm a New Yorker, so was thinking of contacting some docs back east as well.

Well, I'm a Canadian...and we only have LLND's here...so after 3 years treating with one...and plateauing...I decided to go to a LLMD in the Eastern U.S.

My initial consults was not even close to $5K. Or are you talking for the entire treatment time?
No one knows how long it will take.

This Dr. doesn't push ozone therapy or hyperbaric chamber.

He will prescribe antibiotics...and will advise a clean diet with some support supplements...plus monthly lab work.

Appt.s are usually 3-4 months apart. And for people having to travel a long distance (maybe everyone?) he does phone appt.s a couple times per year.

Lyme brain...first visit is $600, second follow up visit $350 - $475 (depending on doc) and then additional half hour follow ups range from $250 - $350. So if I have 6 visits over the course of a year, that comes to well over $3K. Plus any 15 minute calls at $175. So I assume I would be allocating close to $5K just for the doc visits! And this was standard for all 6 of the LLMDs I called today. Oh...and then there is one who charges $1500 for the first visit. Seriously???

My appt.s will be less than $3,000 for the year...my first appt. was February. I have another appt in April..and I think there will be one in July or August...and another one in October.

I won't be paying for any 15 minute calls though.

$1500 for initial consult? How much time was that?

My initial consult was supposed to be 2-3 hours long, but it turned out to be 4 hours long and it was not close to $1500.
