*** I am new to all of this!! I have RMSF (not Lyme) but was brought to this site during my research and there seems to be a lot of relevant information. Am I in the right place for the following questions:


Help!! I was diagnosed with RMSF (after several months of feeling terrible) and have been on doxycycline 100 mg. 2x /day for seven days. Yesterday, I was asked to come in for a followup visit to recheck my blood work and get an update on my condition. I explained to the nurse practitioner that I was still experiencing flu-like symptoms (i.e. painful joints, chronic fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, short term memory loss, etc.) At this time, she told me that the RMSF had been treated and was gone and could not possibly be causing my symptoms seven days later. I was insistent about the way I felt, so she decided to check me for H-pylori. I submitted to the test even though my gut instinct is that what I'm experiencing is related to the RMSF diagnosis. I am not running any fever except sometimes a small fever at night. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am just so frustrated. I honestly don't know what my next step is??

If you are still having symptoms you need to continue treatment.

We can help you find an Lyme literate MD here.

You can email me or Girlie and we will send you some names for your area from our list.

You can also seek recommendations for llmd's from our members.

You can go to ilads.org or ilads.org/ilads_media/physician-referral/ and send a request for llmds in your area.

Stephen Buhner's" healing Lyme" 2nd edition book has a section on RMSF and the herbal protocol for it if that is something you would like to check out.

Also I understand you have RMSF not Lyme buy LLMD's usually understand how to treat and diagnose Lyme and the other co infections.

I would make sure your Md, NP or understands you need to keep treating. See if they will reconsider a few more weeks of the doxy so your covered until you can find an llmd.

Tell them you are very concerned about the fever at night and the other symptoms .



Buhner does list a herbal protocol for RMSF on Page 330 of his 2nd ed. healing Lyme book.

I apologize if my post was confusing. I'm on a 21 day regimen of antibiotics. My concern is her statement that I should be feeling healthy again only after 7 days of antibiotics (6 days when I saw her) and that something else must be wrong with me. I was just wondering if what I'm experiencing could be the after effects of RMSF. Does anyone have experience with this because I am still sick!!! I mean, I'm pretty tough and not one to be sick but this infection has literally knocked me on my butt for over a week now...Just looking for some answers!!

Hi LeslieShe - welcome!

If you had symptoms for several months, then 21 days of treatment won't be enough.


And...the tick most likely passed on some other tick-borne diseases...unfortunately.

It's best you find a LLMD to treat you. Dr's who aren't lyme literate will not treat the tick-borne diseases properly...usually not long enough, and not the correct dosages and combinations of antibiotics.
