Bactrim - and rashes

I was prescribed Bactrim since starting at the J Clinc end of February.


I got some lesions (not really a rash...as they were separate 'spots') - a couple upper body, one on the front of my left shin. This was end of February when I first started the bactrim.
The ones on upper body were round with a centre to them

Called the clinic (stopped the bactrim) and they asked for photos...which i sent. The next day they got back to me and said it didn't look like Stevens Johnson syndrome type rash and to continue taking it.

I did continue...and the spots went away...but the one on my shin looks like a scar now.


Anyway - yesterday (on antibiotic day) - I got a new round lesion just below my right clavicle. about 1/2 inch in diameter and again..has a centre to it.
I took my second dose of Bactrim anyway. (kinda freaking out though)
Before I went to bed, I had a sore spot in my mouth...and sure enough there's a lesion on the inside of my lip on the left side...

So, I googled...and what I read on one site is that you should stop taking it if any type of skin reaction occurs...it doesn't always "LOOK" like Stevens Johnson syndrome right away.

And...it kinda does anyway....I am going of it now..if you've seen the photos and read what can happen...you will know where I'm coming from.


Thank goodness the pharmacy confirmed the minocycline I have from last year is still good to take.

Dr. J clinic will have to give me something to replace the Bactrim...I am not taking that chance.

I had to cancel my dental hygiene appt for today...as this 'blister' is quite large and angry looking...don't need anyone messing around in there with sharp tools.


...the blister on the inside of my lip is worse this morning....I think the half-life of Bactrim is about 8 hours.....

Hey Girlie my wife can't do minocycline so Dr. J the other day said ok and she's not taking it.

You don't HAVE to do Bactrim he will find you something else to take. It seems there are a few staple abx they need but for the most part its about being persistent with whatever you're taking.

Oh another interesting tidbit. He said those LLMD's still prescribing Mepron and Zithromax alone for Babesia are behind the times as that combo isn't all that effective anymore. You must include this with a more comprehensive protocol.

So maybe Zithromax plus Mepron and Ceftin or mino work?


I think I’ll wait until my appt in August to discuss this.
I think the mino/Ceftin for both weeks should be fine - I’ve got one more full cycle til I go to the clinic -
I am hoping to switch to bart abx - which will still need two abx besides the Rifabutin.

What does your wife take - Ceftin and bactrim ?
