Hi and welcome to our forum,
Thanks to your friend for their service.
We have had members from the Chicago area on in the past year. Hopefully they will check in and have some recommendations for you.
Not sure about one that takes insurance though.
The doxy dose should be 400 mg a day taken at 200 mg 2 X a day.
If its acute Lyme then 6 weeks doxy and until no symptoms for at least two months I believe.
Since this is Chronic Lyme your friend has they need to take more than one antibiotic. Most Lyme literate Md's use two or more ABX.
Also doxy will knock back the infection, but doxy also can put the bacteria into cyst form.
Its also important to check for co-infections as Lyme rarely travels alone.
These co-infections can keep people sick even if the Lyme is put into remission.
LLMD's should be able to clinically diagnose for these and/or many use testing through Igenix.
Make sure to have them use a good probiotic.
We do encourage you all to checkout our "New to Lyme" thread at the top of the page.
It has useful info on Lyme, testing, symptoms and more.
Take care and others will be along.
