Hi everyone,
Not sure how many of you guys have been following my treatment journey, but I am now approximately 10 weeks into my treatment protocol for bart/babs/yersinia. Just thought I'd update the ones who have. =] I just had a followup with my doc and she suggested the following:
1. Start malarone based on my herx to the artemisinin...she now strongly thinks I may have some babesia activity going on which might be hindering my bart treatment.
2. Start taking metoprolol (beta blocker) for my dysautonomia/pots symptoms. (starting very small dose, 12.5 mg)
3. Takasumi (1 scoop in 2-3 oz of water) in the afternoon away from all other food/meds for detox/binder effects.
4. Quercetin - 250-500mg 1-3 times per day as tolerated to stabilize MCAD. My doc thinks that my infections are triggering a mast cell disorder which is responsible for many if not most of my symptoms so she has me on other mast cell meds as well.
I'm still continuing on the biaxin/rifampin/artemisinin combo for abx along with all the same supplements, antihistamines, etc.
She told me that the bart/yersinia cannot be treated until the babesia is treated. If I don't herx after taking malarone then we can safely rule out babesia.
So any thoughts on my latest updates? I feel like my LLMD just continues add more and more drugs to my already hefty lineup ><. She explains each one of them in great detail but a part of me thinks still that I'm taking too many things? Maybe I'm wrong?
Feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Question: If she feels that the bart/yersinia cannot be treated until babs is...then why still on the Rifampin?
Rifampin can decrease the effectiveness of the Atovaquone
- or are you taking them separate weeks?
Let me know how the beta blocker works for you...I also have pots..
Is your blood pressure affected...or just pulse rate?Right. My LLMD told me that the rifampin does decrease the effectiveness of atovaquone. There is still a little bit of uncertainty whether I indeed have babesia, so she wants to trial malarone without interrupting bartonella treatment to see if I herx. If I do, she intends to stop rifampin for a period to treat the babesia first.
Regarding the beta blocker, I mostly see some irregularities/spikes in pulse rate from resting to standing. My blood pressure usually stays pretty stable but she wants me to measure both twice a day and if my heart rate gets too low (below 60 bpm) than the beta blocker is not for me.
