After getting much worse last year after the flu shot I said I would never get it again. Well I had to because our 2 month old grandson living with us (son and his fiance are living with us to pay off all of their debts and save a down payment for house) and his doctor wanted everyone around him to have flu and whooping cough vaccines. I was leary but his health is more important than mine so I got them.

That was a week ago today. Not as bad as last year but the joint pain, fatigue and twitching have gone through the roof. Hope it doesn't last to long. It bums me out when I twitch bad(last night both legs, back and arm were twitching simultaneously ) makes me worried I will get bad like I was last year. Not up for that again. Wouldn't it be nice if we could be put in stasis while treating and just wake up well? Skip all of the misery.

Do all of you get the flu shot and if so does it make you worse? I have always got it but the last two times have been rough. No problems at all before getting sick with lyme and bart.

i have never had the flu shot..even before i got hit with lyme. Last year my 4 year old, 2 year old and myself all got flu b. they recovered in like 4 days and i recovered in 3 weeks lol i was soooo sick..felt like death.

my son whos in pre k needs to have the flu shot by december... ive never given either of my kids the shot... i do not wanna do it.. but i think im left with no choice.. i dont know how to get around it. im scared to get them the shot because im terrified that if i passed lyme to them, this will wake it up. my stomach hurts thinking about it. they are both fully vaccinated with their up to date shots and so far so good... but who knows ya know

I'm sorry you're having that reaction, WV Mike. sad I hope it goes away quickly.

Physedgirl, what do you think of the shot for yourself after having the flu? I think if your kids were fine with their other shots, they'll be fine with this one.

I don't get the flu shot but my daughter with Lyme wants it. Both of our doctors recommend against it, but if she gets flu badly, I will feel very guilty for discouraging her. Also, I'm a teacher this year and likely to get everything my students get. I wonder how bad the shot is compared with the high likelihood of getting the flu and having a hard time shaking it.

Never have and never will


I work in provincial health care and since they ramped up the campaign for everyone to get the shots several years ago - a report showed there has not been a significant reduction in flu related fatalities in the elderly population (one group who they recommend get it)

One year (two years ago??) it was reported that the flu shot ended up not being effective - didn’t get the vaccine ‘right’ - wrong strain or something.

I never get the flu - prior to lyme and since lyme - so I’m not even considering it .

Dahlias, did your docs tell you why they didn't want you to get the flu shot? Did they say nit to ever get it again or just not while fighting lyme?

Good question. My daughter's doctor indicated that it wouldn't be good for her right now while fighting infection. I'll have to remember to ask mine more about it next time.
