Holy cow........a new Vitamix pro is $550. Top of the line, so I'm guessing it works pretty good for that price.
I kinda like the homemade hillbilly chainsaw motor blenders; not recommended for indoor use though.
"...homemade hillbilly chainsaw motor blenders; not recommended for indoor use..."
hahaha - I laughed aloud at that one!
Another place to look for a Vitamix blender is eBay. I just found a "Vitamix S50 10-Speed Blender" for $185 plus $16.50 shipping. There are a variety of Vitamix models and some are new, some are refurbished, and some are just used that may or may not have any remaining warranty.
I can only speak for my Vitamix blender and my experience, but this thing is pretty amazing. The only downside is possibly going deaf, since it sounds like a General Electric GE90 high-bypass turbofan aircraft engine.
Okay, maybe that's a
slight exaggeration, but I do wear my Sony earbuds, when using the blender. No music...just the earbuds. The blender is pretty loud and the repeated exposure to that dB level can't be good. At the time I bought mine, I had an option to buy a newer model (also refurbished) that was purported to be 30% quieter, for an extra $100, but I decided against it. Now, I kinda wish I'd bought it. C'est la vie.
Before buying mine, I looked into Blendtec blenders, too. But the Vitamix seemed to have the best reviews, service, and support. I was lucky in buying my refurbished unit, because it was being demonstrated at Whole Foods Market -- where a friend of mine works. She was able to get an additional discount off the refurbished price (it was either 20% or 30% additional savings), so I gave her cash ahead of time and she bought it for me.
You may have already seen it, but I just noticed the Vitamix website has a special on certified reconditioned blenders:
