Hi everyone,
I will need to go to Brazil in April (unavoidable since it is for work) and my company is requiring a yellow fever vaccine since there have been a few outbreak over the past couple of years. I read up about it and saw that it is a live virus and that those with weakened immune systems should not get the vaccine. Although weakened immune systems the CDC lists are on the more severe side (HIV, undergoing cancer treatment, taking RA immune system weakening drugs) I am still a bit worried about it.
My immune system is average. I've been treating lyme and bart for 3 years with mostly herbals, some antibiotics. Symptoms still come and go on a regular basis but overall I would say I'm a "high functioning" lymie as symptoms don't get in the way of my day to day.
My LLND thinks it's fine to get it (although he is not happy about it, he was more open about a yellow fever vaccine than me getting a flu shot, which he was dead against) and my LLMD has no opinion based on my current state.
So my question is this: Has anyone had a live virus vaccine and how did they react? Do you do anything to boost your immune system ahead of time? Any suggestions for after the vaccine to keep your immune system from crashing?
I should add that I'm not looking for opinions about whether or not to get it, but rather if anyone has had it (or a similar live virus vaccine like MMR or Chickenpox) and what the reaction was. I just want to know what to expect and how to prepare if that's even possible.
Thank you!
