I've read some theories that some of us have genetic traits that make it easier for Lyme to overwhelm the immune system. But I don't quite get it. Can anybody explained these genetic differences? What kind of test can we take to see if we have these genes or gene mutations? Why are some people lucky enough to be asymptomatic, and others like us suffer for years?

Good question. I've myself been asking myself such questions lately.

I mean... there is apparently roughly 300 000 new cases of Lyme in the USA, each year.
Where are all these sufferers? Healingwell seem like the most popular Lyme forum, and it seems that there a couple hundreds people around, at best.
I would expect so much more traffic if the pandemic is real, and more importantly, if each sufferer endure what we do?

Those 300,000 include the acute cases as well.
I’d say a large number aren’t on forums.
We have many that come here after years of suffering.

And many are told there’s nothing that can be done after a few weeks of abx.. so they don’t even pursue it.

There are groups of chronic Lyme patients that are now saying chronic Lyme can’t be effectively treated... and I’m talking about well educated people In Lyme disease who are spreading this.
They are maintaining that it’s pointless to see a LLMD and ILADS is a farce.

In a nut shell- There are many genetic differences that can effect many different health issues, and all body systems. It makes you who you are, hair color, build, what foods you might get more benefit from ect.

Many of the rare diseases children are born with are a direct result of "genetic mishaps"- I've been gene tested for many (hundreds) of genetic muscle disorders at a specialty clinic/hospital.

Some gene disorders do not make a direct influence all alone since there can be many genes that contribute to how a specific organ or "body system" works....or doesn't work. In some cases the gene or missing gene just raises probability of something not working right and possibly needs a body under stress or illness to "flip" the gene starting or contributing to an issue.

I would not get to worried about it, but it can help in some health mysteries and even conventional medicine uses these (as stated above) in diagnosing diseases and issues. Not its not smoke and mirrors, but much of it is still a mystery.

The easiest way to do this is the 23andme test which is very gogglable" and popular today. There are other consumer available gene tests out also in recent years. You get raw data from these and then download to a genetic decoder of your choice. This is all changing and advancing so there is a lot more than what I did a few years ago.

You can goggle many gene test posts on this forum too.

I think immune system genetics likely play a large role. A particular subtype tends to have the worst symptoms and difficulties when it comes to lyme (HLA-DR4). Also various other cofactors, including detox genetics, how many other factors are involved (coinfections, metals, mold, thyroid, parasites, viruses, SIBO, etc) likely play a role in severity of the case.

Exactly. There are many "body system" genes which can influence the wide variety of "lyme symptoms". In that case, they can be more of an indirect lyme symptom, possibly triggered by the body stress of these infections.

Genes and their effects are real. Many people have proof. If you cant fix them, at least you can support them. And its not all about lyme either, other health discoveries also happen when you start digging into your gene code. This can freak out some people who have a hard time with he truth, personally I like road maps and answers. I would think most here do.

As far as people being paranoid about being labeled for "bad genes" from the government and health insurance. - LOL, if they wanted it that bad, it could be law some day along with your chipped/embedded SS number. Nothing you can do about it but leave for greener pastures then.
