Is itching a bart herx reaction?

Started rifabutin last week and I'm itchy. First hands and scalp, now ears and arms and a little on my legs. Is that a bart herx symptom? I assumed herx but this morning I'm seeing a few spots that look like hives -- odd because I didn't take it yet today and didn't take it yesterday. (Pulsing.)

Talk to your prescriber. Hives can be a sign of medication allergy, which can escalate to more serious reactions quickly.

But yes, some people itch while herxing. Are you herxing in any other way?

Saraeli, I haven't noticed much else, oddly enough, because I'm a big herxer in general. Just some mild nervy-type feelings, especially around my teeth. And tooth sensitivity -- I think I read that can be a bart thing.

I have a lot of allergies and I'm on antihistamines year-round. It doesn't seem to be making much difference in this.

Now that it's light and I can see better, I don't think it really looks like hives. I see some little bumps that I think could be from toxins. I called and left a message but took this morning's dose. Guess I'll know soon, lol.

I’m also waiting for a callback. I called yesterday afternoon.

Has it gotten worse since you posted?

I started to itch on rifampin and it was an intrahepatic cholestasis bit very high transaminases.

The office responded and said it's nerve irritation. They recommended detoxing, antihistamines and gabapentin. (I declined the gabapentin.)

The itching is getting worse. My skin feels warm and almost burned in a very mild way in some places.

So would this be confirmation that I have bart?

I had about a week of breaking out and itching on my back but it went away. Maybe that was a herx. I have bartonella.

This has been a HUGE problem for me now for months. Little itchy dots come up and sometimes there’s no real rash where it is itching.

It has on most of my body, my scalp itches but doesn’t flake, and face burning is real bad.



The face burning is on most of face instead of just one side, so it doesn’t seem to be trigeminal nerve.

If I treat for Bart, neuropathy gets worse. I see Rainy!’s is worse in morning. Mine is worst at night. How about others ?
