Loss of Taste: A-Bab, APO-HEPAT, Adrecor, DHEA, Other Items Cause?

Hello, my wife is being treated for suspected babesia. After being on the treatment protocol (prescribed by a D.O.) for roughly 3 weeks, she has completely lost her sense of taste (not smell).

We are at a loss as to the cause and are in the process of getting updated blood work to determine next steps. I suspect one of the herbal remedies could be the cause given other posts on this forum regarding Andrographis and Knottwood (I don't believe these are in her protocol below).

Anyone have any ideas of cause or similar issues?

She is taking;
A-Bab - 15 drops -
CandElim
APO - HEPAT - 1/2 Teaspoon
Adrecor - 2 pills daily
DHEA - 25mg

Other items:
Chrysanthemum tea
Nettle tea

I’ve not heard of candelim - that must have been awful for her.

I was taking Apo-Hepat (for liver detox) and it was fine

How is she doing now - is treatment working?

Hello, all better now. She seems to have been misdiagnosed by the DO. So the treatment protocol taken was unnecessary. The current doc thinks the original symptoms were caused by a virus.

Question: Why was Babesia first suggested?
Did she have a tick bite...and/or a test result....and/or symptoms ?


I'm concerned that she does have tick borne illness...but the non lyme literate dr. is negating it.

Hello - she was feeling very fatigued and not recovering from training related to a half marathon and similar events. She did, however, have a tick bite last year in August of '18.

A blood test indicated no lyme, so the D.O. performed a muscle weakness test and declared Babesia was the likely culprit. No actual blood panel or other test result identified an issue. Further, the muscle weakness test performed did not appear very scientific.

In short - I suspect having young kids (3 yr old twin boys...crazy twin boys...) paired with a virus and over training were the fatigue driver. She has since dialed back her training and is doing great. If it was a herx reaction, I would assume that we will see another onset of fatigue - I'll post back if this comes up again.

No such symptom. She is doing great now. The primary symptom was fatigue and a recent tick bite. All symptoms have resolved. She is even starting to train for events again. I really suspect this was a bad diagnosis at this point... I hope!

The loss of taste was the scary issue and had the medical professionals stumped. Fully resolved now.
