Thoughts on IV antibiotics?

As crazy as it is, I’ve been treating Lyme etc for 6 years now and no one has recommended IV antibiotics for me. Some doctors have just not brought them up, others have recommended against it.

I do understand as I don’t have any neuro issues besides head pressure. No vertigo, dizziness, ringing in ears, blurry vision, balance issues etc etc.

Also I have always had negative VCS tests and I’m super sensitive to a lot of things so I’ve never really pushed the issue.

I understand everyone’s different what are people’s experiences/opinions with IV antibiotics as opposed to oral? Can it make a huge difference? With negative VCS and no traditional neuro symptoms symptoms is it still something I should look into?

It’s not crazy that you haven’t been recommended to take IV abx.

I haven’t either. Most people treating these infections don’t do the IV route.

I have Neuro lyme and Dr J never recommended I do IV abx - and he does offer/suggest it for some cases.

I have been in contact via email with many people who see dr J in the past couple years (id say 15-20) and Id say one or perhaps two people it was suggested they do IV.

Negative VCS? What’s that?

I was in a situation where it didn't cost me too much out of pocket. This is probably uncommon.

I started IV particularly for heart issues, although I also had head issues as well. After 2 months my head is more clear, not quite my old self, but remaining issues could be from something other than borrelia. Finishing at the end of this week for a total of 9.5 wks.

Some people say there are oral abx that cross the blood-brain barrier very well.

Oral abx are harder on the gut. I think some people choose IV if they have trouble tolerating orals.

PICC lines can be dangerous (sepsis, clotting). Can't get them wet. They're kind of a hassle.

Hopefully someone can give a more complete/knowledgeable answer. I'll check in again later (right now I'm on my phone)

I did 300K IV penicillin every other 3-4 days for about two months and it really knocked it down. I did this with guidance from my doctor. Penicillin is gram negative and lyme is gram positive, but it worked anyway--basically, I gather, medical science doesn't have a clue.

Girlie. In terms of the VCS, yes it’s mostly used for mold but I believe it can also be for Lyme biotoxins as well? My first LLMD used it in her office and when it came back negative she used that as a reason not to do IV antibiotics.

Dr j says if someone’s GI can’t handle orals or if they have critical structures that are compromised - he recommends IV. (I think that’s how he phrased it)
If someone has been diagnosed with ALS - he’ll suggest IV for example

burrascano recommends iv for 6mo min if there is heart involvement.
most insurance at most will cover 30 days tops. after 1 month of biweekly ozone i choose to get a smartport installed , then used infuserve pump balls to save costs . i think for providers to take the risk of their practice is the trick not so so much the cost ...it did provide some immediate relief .
