I know...right? Anyone in the US I hear who says "oh Europeans are so lucky, they have free healthcare!" It almost makes me gasp.
Anyone that really looks at how govt.entities are run should know that it's a cattle call. Govt. is always under-resourced, govt. employees are usually protected by an army of regulations and unions. And there's a protocol for another protocol for another protocol...the red tape is staggering. So if a govt. doc messes up, they're typically moved or re-trained. They typically can't be sued.
Get sick...good luck! Wait list central for a specialist.
While we don't have an NHS like system. We do have military hospitals which active duty military families have access to and is very NHS like. Also the Veterans Administration Healthcare system.
I have been bombarded by horror stories of substandard care at these hospitals and clinics (myself included as my husband was a military officer for 20+ yrs and our son was born at one of these "lovely places".) There are running jokes about
some of these hospitals as butcher shops and whatnot. So whenever some misinformed person here makes some statement envying the NHS or European system. I'll share with them examples why the grass only appears greener on the other side... it's not.
Is the US good? No...not even close. We have people going into poverty due to exorbitant medical bills. Something seriously needs to be done about
this also.
