How Contagious is Lyme Disease?

Hi,

I was just wondering about this.

How contagious is Lyme Disease?

For example, if you share a drink with someone, can it survive in saliva?

I know the stance of the CDC on this, but I'm just curious about learning the actual truth.

I find it hard to believe that spirochetes are found in every part of the body, but somehow it is not transferable?

Would being exposed to air kill the spirochete?

Girlie I appreciate you letting me know it's not a stupid question, I was going back and forth between asking or not.

I'm just worried because I live with roommates now, and it would break my heart if I transferred it to them by sharing a drink or something.

This thread is really scary but also very informative. My LLMD said it can be transmitted sexually. I'm so sorry for the people who transmitted lyme to their partners, that is really hard but you can't blame youeself if you didn't know you had it or that it could be spread like that. I never knew that Lyme likes to hang out in the mouth, not sharing drinks is good advice, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

My impression is that many more people are exposed to Lyme than we realize, BUT many people who contract it don't develop symptoms. I know it's carried by multiple vectors other than ticks - insects and parasites that can transmit it to humans - as well as transmissible between humans, but I think our best bet is as much avoidance as is reasonable, plus keeping our systems strong and healthy so that we can mount a good defense and not develop chronic illness. And of course, keeping our systems strong can be almost impossible given the typical diet, the contaminants in our air and water, the known carcinogens in our products and possessions, our lack of attention to emotional health, our constant exposure to electronics, etc....

I have read in multiple sources (and heard from residents themselves) than on Martha's Vineyard, 50% of people test positive for Lyme. Obviously half of Martha's Vineyard isn't ill. Ditto for timber industry workers. This broadened my mind quite a bit. Many people have these illnesses in their systems without becoming chronically ill. I believe that a strong, healthy bio-terrain will keep them in check. But that is much easier said than done!

Knowing what I now know, I never would produce another child biologically because I believe it is certain, even if I am in remission, that the pathogens are in my body and will spread to a fetus or breastfeeding baby. My current child does not have symptoms, but nevertheless I do my best to keep her strong and healthy - emotional wellbeing, healthy gut, healthy immune system, balanced nutrients, etc. - because I assume these pathogens are in her body. These are opportunistic infections and look for weak moments in which to flourish and take over, and then (as we all know too well) they create imbalances that are very difficult to correct. When I was 22yo and very strong and healthy, I contracted Lyme and was disabled by it for two years, but without diagnosis or treatment, I got better by focusing hard on wellness and emotional wellbeing. I was completely healthy for many years. When very worn down a decade later, the illness gradually returned, and now that I am older and more stressed (kid, house, etc.) I am struggling to heal this time - even with a diagnosis and ongoing treatment!

So yeah, it seems to be relatively contagious, but exposure does not equal disease!

if its in semen and fluid its in saliva . soap does not kill ketes . not sure how long they can encyst outside of host ...were at pandemic levels already

Blue - how come hiv/aids isn’t transmitted via saliva? It is in saliva of those who are hiv positive.

I'm sure I'll get drilled for this on here but personally I'm not buying it. If tests were that positive there's zero point in testing. I dont see any reason to believe its not a STD. Id venture a guess that ones saliva kills it along with digestion. HIV can theoretically be passed by saliva but if it has its never been documented.

HIV is blood borne and present in sexual secretions. It's not present in saliva, urine, feces or sweat.

See I know I wasn't imagining things, it does create cyst forms to survive outside of the body, how long it survives for is a different matter that I'm not aware of but no less, it's possible. Whatever messing around was done with this disease - as congress was hoping to find out - has been horrific. There is no way this is the same illness that Otzi the iceman had thousands of years ago.
