Immune System Questions

Hello all, I am trying to help a friend. She is very sick. She treated lyme for 2 years on all diff. protocols with antibiotics, herbs, ozone, etc. She spent thousands of dollars and got no where. She lost faith in the medical profession. She stopped everything and has not treated for over a year. She has 5 kids and is practically bedridden. She at least has the courage to take my advice. And I am giving it to her slowly and cautiously.

I just recommended her to get her vitamins in order, to start boosting her immune system. So she did that. She takes Vit C, a multivitamin (the right kind since she has MTFR issues), coenzyme Q, etc. The basics. Then I recommended Elderberry. She started that a few days ago and now has alot of chest congestion. She has not had any cold or upper respiratory symptoms like this in over 3 years. I know its a good thing, bc its boosting her immune system, and I plan to advise her to take Oil of Oregano to help with that and remain on the elderberry. She will not do any protocols at this time, so please don't recommend any of them. I tried. She will take one or two things at a time, so I am doing my best. She even told me she stopped the elderberry today, she is so afraid, poor thing.....

She asked me this - "But I still have trouble wrapping my head all around this immune system thing with Lyme. Because of my immune system naturally weak wouldn't I be picking up every little thing like an AIDS patient?"

So, I am having trouble answering her. Its to my understanding that we do pick up alot of things, but our immune system is just too weak to fight it. So viruses and things come and go......without symptoms? There's gotta be a better way to explain this! I just remember when I got sick for the first time after I was treating lyme my Dr was happy.

The only thing I have never been able to understand is why do some people with lyme do indeed get sick, and I thought all of the symptoms (such as nerve pain, inflammation), anything really, were a result of our immune system righting the lyme bacteria?

I have not been sick with a cold or flu for 6 years - the entire time I’ve been sick with lyme.
It doesn’t make sense to me that it means a suppressed immune system - because if that was so - then we’d be getting sick all the time.

Look at the elderly/frail.
Their immune system is weaker and when they get the flu - they can die - they can get severely sick...

But someone said somewhere on here and my Dr said that the immune system is too weak to react to the viruses that come and go - that does make sense, and it makes the puzzle pieces fit together, bc when I started getting better, I got "real" sick again.

Doesn’t make sense to me... then how come the frail elderly are at risk with the flu?

Rainycloud - yes, that is just how I am analyzing it!

Girlie - the elderly are frail, yes, their bodies are weak from just old age, but that does not mean their immune system is not functioning properly.

Per immunologists....Nope. The boy in the plastic bubble? he was in there so he would not get sick. Kids born this way are in fact SICK with symptoms all the time, which is itself, a symptom of low immunity.

Im one of those rare oddballs who have been to several immunologist (less of them than LLMD's). And I drilled them with this question. And tested my immune system like crazy to eliminate the guessing.

I have repeat documented "low volume" immune cells. Volume and strength are two different things. (Ah ha!!) Plus different parts of it protect us from different things. CD 57 is just a quick glance at a small part of this. Low immunity will first be seen in a low white blood cell count and branches out from there to more specific (many) tests. These are made of certain proteins too (globulins) and some are antibodies.

The immune system is like a countries armed services (water, air, ground, online) and different parts can be affected without bringing the whole thing to a halt.

There is also known genes that can turn off certain immune cells (once the switch is flipped). I tested those too..
