EBV PCR DNA Test Negative Seems to Contradict Other Results

Does anyone have any idea if an EBV DNA test is more valid than EBV early antigen IgG, EBV Ab VCA, IgG and EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG? Also, EBV IgM is extremely high. All have been positive and very high except the EBV DNA tests (2 of them).

I have no idea what it means and the infectious disease doctor cannot seem to provide an understandable explanation. And, of course, Lyme was totally dismissed.

So it's simple matter of is the EBV DNA (by PCR) more reliable than the others? I've been high positive on them for a long time. The information online concerning EBV DNA is so technical it tells me nothing. I had not even seen an EBV DNA test until a month or so ago during first test.

Anyone have any idea if that means the other EBV tests (not the DNA test) could be cross reacting with something else? Worn down trying to find an answer. Thanks.

Is there a simple explanation for this?

(Although I’ve been told with lyme and co’s that positive pcr tests is usually considered an
active infection )
Maybe it’s the same with ebv.

Thanks for the bump, Girlie, but I really didn't expect much from it. The EBV DNA subject matter is not discussed or experienced much.

I'd love to know what this all means, too, but sadly I don't know! I've never been offered a PCR test for EBV, but I would be interested in one.

When I had the DNA ConneXions test for Lyme and co-infections, I was told that the PCR test only could be positive if it found DNA being shed by active infections - meaning that a dormant infection would not show up, and that you could not have a false positive. So in my mind, it's the more trustworthy test. Perhaps it works differently for viruses?

saraeli - I did read enough to see a positive is truly a positive with PCR. But, it seems, a negative may not truly be a negative, if I read the complex studies correctly. I've had two negatives on the EBV DNA by PCR. Maybe if I do 10 and they are all negative, then it might have some validity smile.
