Good RX discount, hope it stays around

I really don’t understand how that could possibly work the app has no ads on it ,it’s strictly a big discount versus your prescription RX price from health insurance. What’s in it for them? that’s the part I don’t get.

Another nice feature is you can stock up on meds when you don’t use health insurance because it’s the health insurance that dictates how much you can get and when.

A lot of meds nowadays have shortages which almost seems like it’s planned that way to make the price increase happen.

My PA just told me today that she heard that pharmacys don't make a cent when goodrx is used. I guess she wonders how long it will be around if this is so. Tried to get Mepron at Krogers (cheap price there and at Harris Teeter $201.78) today and was told it was backordered. Don't think they said when it would be in next. The other places were all over $350.

I don't accept Good Rx because I would have to close due to poor reimbursement. Getting paid from PBM's is difficult enough, I let the Good Rx people drive to Walmart 18 miles away. Good Rx sells your information data companies who pawn it off to advertisers. I've seen Good Rx prices well below the actual cost of the medication. I enjoy helping people but I have a business, not a charity.

Skinny, most of the time, you do not lose money but the money you make is not a sufficient margin to cover expenses.

On brand name medications, pharmacies will either barely break even or lose money. So if you get $1,000 worth of medication that is brand, the pharmacy makes very little, nothing, or loses money. People don't believe this is true but it is. I would rather not stock any brands but we have to serve our patients. Generics is where the money is made and on some medications (like Atovaquone), we make good money. On Good Rx, it lowers the profitability of the generics to the point where they won't offset the loss from the brands. We need the profit from the generics to be profitable.

Meanwhile, the manufactures are making a killing every time they jack up cost, which is too frequent now-days. At a way more progressive pace than the consumer economy can handle.

It's not the manufacturers that are making a killing, it's the PBM's. They are useless, unnecessary, and robbing the patients of their money. If I make 20% profit, I'm happy. Of course I have a few hundred thousand in inventory and a lot of overhead, but the PBM's have nothing! They do nothing! Last year, Caremark, one of the big PBM's, made around 15 billion dollars. I'll say it again, they did nothing but rob money from you and me. Who owns Caremark...................CVS Pharmacy! Talk about a conflict of interest! I have to pay between 5 and 10% to Caremark (for no reason) but what does CVS do, they pay themselves that 5 to 10%. Walgreens owns their own as well. There is so much politics in this that it's just rotten smelling. As for not taking insurances, these PBM run insurances are over 50% of my business. I can't not take them. Even in my last contract negotiation, they said there would be no line striking in the contract. It was all or none. Talk about a bad deal. A bad deal is better than no deal when it involves that many patients.

As far as manufactures go, well.............wernt they responsible for price jacking insulin? What about the worlds "most hated man" in 2018? That "kid" pharma CEO who ramped up some pill from next to nothing to $750. His response was he was hired to make profits.

A Pharmacy Benefit Manager is the "outsourced company" that deals with the Rx coverage part of a health insurance plan correct?

If that is the case, then how does that effect "cash" Rx prices that are not run thru a health ins Rx coverage plan?

The bottom line price is still being jacked up at an alarming rate. Proof: My Good Rx cash price (zero insurance involved) of a same med four years ago has still doubled in price today. Its still way cheaper than running thru my incs Rx coverage though.
