Mycotoxin illness can be indistinguishable from Lyme and Bartonella symptoms. Some consider electrical buzzing sensations or sudden zaps to be tell-tale mold signs, but some swear they have those from Bartonella instead, and many with mold illness don't have those symptoms. The general wisdom is that no, a person who remains exposed to mold will not get better. You have to be removed from exposure once you are sensitized to it.
There are some blood tests that people run (covered by insurance) to see if there is inflammation normally associated with mold, but some mold doctors are moving away from these because some are cross-reactive with Lyme and co-infections. https://www.survivingmold.com/diagnosis/lab-tests
That website has a lot of other good information, so take a look there and also at biotoxinjourney.com and paradigmchange.me
To see if your mom has mycotoxins in her system, use a Great Plains urine test. To see if her living space has mold growing (remember most mold is hidden) use an ERMI dust sample test from Mycometrics.
If you have not yet checked out the book Toxic by Neil Nathan, then I strongly suggest you check it out. Also poke around this forum using the search function, as we discuss mold quite often, so you might find a lot of information in past threads.
Mold can cause a vast array of symptoms, but the most common are: fatigue, weakness, muscle cramps, aches, headaches, sinus issues, congestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, sensitivity to light and touch, various pains, all manner of neurological issues, coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath, joint pain, cognitive issues, thirst, metallic taste, numbness, tingling, menstrual issues, dizziness, balance issues, appetite problems, anxiety, depression, night sweats, frequent urination, body temperature issues, tics, spams, seizures, tremors, and the buzzing and zapping sensations I mentioned earlier. It also can cause widespread inflammation and damage, as well as dysregulate the immune system, causing MCAS, and plenty of other effects.
It can be a huge deal. Definitely worth looking into.
