Long Time Concerns for My Daughter Now More Urgent, Suggestions Appreciated

For a number of years now, I've been concerned my youngest daughter (just turned 21) might have Lyme Disease. This goes back at least 7-8 years, but when she was younger, my ex-wife had final say on anything, and if it was an idea from me, it wasn't going to happen.

My daughter has been prone to anxiety for years, though it is a bit better now. Also, despite her then lower weight, she has been bloated a little as long as I can remember, which always worried me. She has always been a runner, but is now gaining weight even though she eats well and gets a lot of exercise.

Recently, she began feeling very bad with a sore throat, fatigue and other symptoms I saw as possible EBV. Took her to my doctor and had multiple blood tests run, many off a list I compiled based on what I've had to check for.

I was surprised to see her T3, T4 and TSH numbers were all normal. Thought that might explain the weight gain.
Her EBV results, however, were very high (EBV AB VCA, IgM 98.2, EBV AB VCA, IgG 153.0, EBV Nuclear Antigen ab, iGg 419.0.

Also, though it was through Labcorp, her Lyme blot showed positive for band 41, both IgM and IgG. The doctor said this could be from EBV, but I didn't think that made sense because of EBV being a virus. Bart and Babesia both negative. Again, this was a Labcorp test, which really may not tell anything.

Her Vitamin D level was low at 19.09, (30 indicating low), but her homocysteine levels were good at 5.8. Her B12 was decent at 454. All CBC and Comp numbers looked very good.

This has been on my mind for years, and her recent EBV symptoms led me to finally get her tested for a lot of items. One more note: I noticed on a test just over two years ago, her Lipid panel showed high cholesterol, just over normal high triglycerides, high end of normal LDL (bad cholesterol). This from a high mile runner who was running 40 miles a week and 5K races in low 18:00 minute range and a very good diet. Makes no sense.

Does any of this show indications of Lyme? The positive band 41 could be from recent sinus infection? But so many symptoms that are suspect. Hurts to think of for her.

Proteins and albumin are in perfect range for her. Didn't check B6 or ammonia yet. Not even sure if Lyme and co-infections are involved, but it just has too many suspicious elements not to consider. Have wanted to do this for several years and now that she is older it can be done.

I've seen where others on site have kids involved, and nothing is worse than seeing your kids dealing with Lyme. While I pray my daughter's is not Lyme related, I also do so for others with kids already diagnosed and others who have been dealing with this for so many years.

She is going back to the doctor in a few weeks for more testing. It is the long-term bloating, fast weight gain and episodes of anxiety that lead me to Lyme, as she is usually pretty laid back. It probably isn't Lyme related, but would rather do our best to rule it out as much as possible.

When we go back to the doctor, she can ask for ammonia and B6 test, along with others. I am about to get some blood tests from MDL as they are much better priced than others. May end up doing the same with her.

I’ve never heard that about band 41. That was my Labcorp positive band, too, until my last test when it disappeared. I thought band 41 was from the tail (flagella) of a spirochete. Not sure what a virus or non-spirochete bacteria would have to do with that.

The doctor is the same one I see, locally, who does believe in chronic Lyme and has treated me for at least two years. She is open minded and is very good with Lyme associated tests that need to be done. She actually works with a naturopath one day a week. That's how I met her.

Band 41 has always been a confusing one for me to understand. Have read so much about who it can cross with other bacteria. It didn't make sense to me when the nurse said it could be the EBV, as I thought it would have to be a bacterial infection to show up on the bands.

When Girlie mentioned dental spirochetes, that hit home. My daughter had some dental work done about a month or so ago, and she said one area feels "off." That may be the problem, but with Labcorp testing for Lyme, I'm just not sure.

If you dont have amalgams theres no need for a biological dentist.

The dentist I see and want my daughter to go to is pretty open to natural methods. She has referred me to a dentist who can check me for metal reactions. I do have a crown. The dentist also has started doing ozone, as in the dentist I see. I was surprised to see how open she is to natural cures. Wish my daughter had gone to her for recent treatment.

That's very similar to the one I mentioned. She is not the one who did the root canal. I am going to the biological dentist for the metal testing, but I don't believe my insurance will cover it. So I'm hoping I don't have negative reaction to what would be needed to replace a recently-pulled tooth.

I know nothing about EBV, but I do know that some with CIRS have leptin resistance, which causes unexplained weight gain. It’s in the Shoemaker CIRS material.

Sandyfeet - Thanks for the ideas. She did move about 10 months ago to a new place, so what you mentioned is a possibility. I've been suspicious about her gut for years as she was a very good runner with a good weight but still had bloating. This was while running 40-48 miles a week and racing.

When it's your kids you are concerned about, it's much worse. Thanks for a possible answer.
