Is your hydration consistent? And electrolytes? I ask because I experience that phenomenon - feeling much more functional later in the day - when dysautonomia is acting up. POTS and other forms of dysautonomia are common for a while after a virus, as well as in times of extra stress. Maintaining blood volume is crucial, so maybe drinking plenty of water with some sea salt in it right when you wake up and early in the day could speed the process along?
Another idea is that maybe you have histamine issues, like MCAS, and are consuming something early in the day that aggravates it? That happened to me when I routinely had kombucha for breakfast. But I guess you said it starts at 5 a.m., so maybe that's before you ingest things.
A third possibility is that there's something in your bed that you react to and it takes all day for your system to recover. Mold? An allergen? Laundry detergent? Mattress or pillow fillers?
Fourth idea: This might be obvious, but are there any supplements you take later in the day or foods you tend to eat later in the day that might perk you up? Or anything you take first thing in the morning or before bed that might be making you feel like crud?
Just brainstorming. Hope you get to a better baseline very soon! Being chronically ill while being a parent is terribly difficult. I know what a warrior you are! My child also had pertussis, but when she was very tiny. Luckily it wasn't a big deal for her, but I remember that crazy sound she made!
