Are you already on hormonal contraception, without side effects? If so, then you probably can stay on them without issue. In fact, if your body is accustomed to hormonal contraception, then stopping it when your system is struggling with Lyme might be really hard on you. That said, if you are planning to use pharmaceutical antibiotics (which often cause GI issues) then an oral contraceptive might not be absorbed well enough to be effective (so look into rings, patches, implants, IUDs, etc.). Some herbs like St. John's Wort also can make hormonal contraceptives ineffective. An experienced LLMD should know how the treatments they recommend interact with common drugs like contraceptives.
If you are not already on hormonal contraceptives, then I would advise multi-point testing of all hormonal systems (adrenal, thyroid, pituitary, etc.) before adding endogenous hormones to your system. Sometimes they can be very helpful in stabilizing cyclical flares in symptoms, but other times they can wreak havoc! If you want them just for contraception, then use a different method for now. Start with the lowest possible dose in a topical cream form to see if there's a benefit for you.
