Question about Plaquenil and my treatment regarding Corona

I am currently taking Azithromycin/Tinidazole combo for my Lyme. Say if I did get Corona, would it be advisable to stop taking my antibiotics and take Plaquenil? I know that Azithromycin and Plaquenil should not be taken together.

Docs are using plaquenil with azith as the combo for coronavirus.

The problem is they both have the risk of long qt syndrome - which is an electrical problem with the heart.


Some people are willing to take one med with that risk but not two together.

"Azithromycin: (Major) Avoid coadministration of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. Hydroxychloroquine increases the QT interval and should not be administered with other drugs known to prolong the QT interval. Ventricular arrhythmias and torsade de pointes (TdP) have been reported with the use of hydroxychloroquine. There have been case reports of QT prolongation and TdP with the use of azithromycin in postmarketing reports."

it clearly says NOT to take Plaquenil with Azithromycin unless someone can monitor your QT interval (in a hospital, with 24/7 EKG monitor). Otherwise there is a good chance you die of heart attack, not Corona.

It is generally a good idea to read the labels of the drugs you take, especially the "interactions" section. many people die every year because they do not read labels and self medicate.

Th original Donta protocol was Biaxin (Clarthromycin) with Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) that helped many Lyme patients in early years of treatment. He would also prescribe 750mg tetracycline twice a day in winter months to those with sun sensitivity. It was said that the Plaq would help marcloid (sp?) class antibiotics penetrate cells better to improve effercy.

I've also used Plaq many times in combo with many other ABX protocols over my past ten years fighting lyme with no major adverse effects. Zith and Plaq makes a perfect combo regardless of small possibility for effecting heart QT intervals. The risk outweighs to benefits in many cases. What do you have to loose anyway? Makes sense that it has helped some Corona virus patients recover, even though abx is said to not work against a virus, but a viral infection in the lungs commonly causes bacterial infections to flourish and kill you.

yes but have u ever used this combo while at the same time have pre-respiratory failure? This will put additional huge strain on your heart. So you take two drugs that alter QT interval plus your heart/lungs have lack of oxygen ... your heart will try to compensate for that by beating faster.... this greatly increases your chances of an event.

If you've got a history of heart issues then stay away from Azithromycin and other medications that come with a black box warning for long qt syndrome.

Ok this worries me a bit lol. I've been on plaquenil/azithromycin/ceftin/rifampin daily for at least a year now. I have had issues with irregular heart beats/palpitations but I had those from Lyme before starting meds. If anything they have improved since starting meds.
