Sure. SIBO stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth.
Its super common in the chronically ill. Are you or were you on Abx? Often times autonomic dysfunction can cause it, but abx can also do it. The antibiotics can cause a hit your levels of commensal bacteria, which
opens up the door for opportunistic bacteria to overgrow in their place.
The opportunistic bacteria will release gasses, which is why you feel so bloated. I believe there's two types, those that release hydrogen and those that release methane. I believe the methane version causes constipation, and the hydrogen tends to cause diarrhea, but dont quote me on that.
You should be able to ask any GP or gastroenterologist for a test, its a 2 hr breath test and can often be done at home.
Obviously SIBO is not good for you, its another infection that must be treated before you can return to health. The standard treatment is Rifaximin, an antibiotic that works specifically on the intestines. You may also need to temporarily change your diet for a short period of time if the abx dont work completely. They dont know why diet works, but it does. Probably has something to do with a leaky gut and stomach inflammation.
This is funny timing because I literally plan on doing an at home SIBO test this weekend. Often times once you've had it you can get it again, and with my recent flare up in autoimmune symptoms combined with some diarrhea and poor diet since corona began, I want to make sure that that isnt contributing to my illness. It can turn into a feedback loop where chronic illness causes SIBO which causes more illness.
