Possible tick bite - husband

My husband who is always outside in the yard...came in a couple days ago asking me about a tiny black 'thing' on his calf.

He had to use tweezers to pull it out. So whatever it was...it was burrowed in. He squished it and blood came out of it.
I'm assuming a tick. I told him to get prophylactic abx.

Called our regular Dr. (he doesn't have a lyme doc) - and she prescribed 3 weeks of doxycycline. I believe suspected tick bites should be 4 weeks (according to the Burrascano guidelines) ... he's taking my minocycline until he picks up the doxy...so it will be close to 4 weeks.
Getting the 3 weeks from my doc is amazing - so didn't want to push for 4 weeks.

I guess I've had an impact on her perspective. She's seen how devastating it can be.

You probably want to mail it away for testing. I dont have any suggestions for a place I mail mine to a local university and they only want local ticks.

They go in some solution. So size is not critical someone is not looking at it under a microscope.
