Astroman,

I saw you posted this on another thread. What do does this mean? I take Natural Calm magnesium at night, often near my other herbs, supplements, and meds.

Magnesium can supposedly affect the proper absorption of some meds in your gut. This is mentioned online and most LLMDs or "natural" Drs also preach this.

I dont think it affects herbs.

I at least separated important meds by one hr from mag before bed. I took meds first, then mag later. Most meds should be absorbed in one hr I would think.

Only important med I take now is thyroid med, which I dont take at night.

Thank you very much. Neither doctor I have seen ever mentioned this, and I have been doing it fir years. I usually take my night dose of everything with or close to the magnesium and took the irher capsule form of magnesium with everything else, too.

Well, this goes for all vitamins and minerals, not just mag.

Most RX info will say this on the long info sheet too.

Common sense says take meds first, let absorb for at least one hr,..... then vitamins or minerals, that order.

Drs have a lot on their brains, but some are detailed, some are not, and some dont have time to be.

Thank you again. That information is even more helpful. So, I have been doing it wrong for years, well at least a year. I have been on Nystatin and Fluconazole since last summer and take everything at one time twice a day. I was taking Flagyl for a week and took the last dose this morning. So, I messed that up, too, and didn’t get full benefit.

So, I should be taking prescriptions first. Could I take herbs and non-vitamin/mineral supplements with the Prescriptions? Then wait an hour to take vitamins and minerals.

Can vitamins and minerals be taken with food, or should they be on an empty stomach?

I know I have been around here a few years, but I obviously didn’t learn the basics. When I think about how much stuff I take and for how long (in most cases years) and how little I know, comprehend, and remember, I shudder. I can’t even afford to see another practitioner at this point unless I stop treating to save money.

No one can directly instruct people on how to take there Rx meds on this website.

All legit Rx's come with an info sheet. This is where face to face Phamacists are good to talk to for new prescriptions.

That said, we can say what WE did in the situation based on research and direction from past medical professionals:

Some will say one hour is the minimum after Rx to take vitamins and minerals, ive seldom done less but didnt have time for much more. Some Drs will say more time...........but when you take a boatload of stuff time is not on your side.

Most herbs and non-vitamin/mineral supplements will not interfere with Rx. But...there is always the unknown.

Vitamins and minerals are possibly even more effective if taken with food, but not necessary.
