AFAIK its usually a case of surgical excision when a bone is infected.
but I am not well-read in this area - just seems to be the general procedure used when there is infected bone.
it may be that it's too hard to treat with drugs alone
much like how the treat abscesses elsewhere - they like to scoop out most of the bad stuff then give mega doses of abx
I know that much as I had the mother of all abscesses on my ass as a kid!!.
it was not pleasant.
edit to add - i guess it depends on what type of infection - a bone-eating puss-filled abscess? then i think they would want to get in there with the tools pronto.
but all of us with Bart have an infection in our bones -as it likes to live there in the cells that make our blood cells - that is kind of a mostly silent systemic thing - rather than an acute abscess thing. And needs different treatments.
BTW bart is known for joint and ligament damage/connective tissue injuries that take forever to heal.
