So the naturopath whose diet I am having good results with recommends this "probiotic" Mutaflor to her clients. Seems really interesting and I thought that some others might be able to benefit.
It's actually marketed as a treatment for colitis that improves gut barrier strength. But it's not quite a probiotic, its actually a strain of e.coli that kills bad bacteria. I trust this practitioner very much, so I purchased some. Will update people when it comes, but it's a very interesting product.

Great, please tell some info later how it works.
I am looking for some well-working probiotics atm....

i have taken it
experienced some of the usual gut symptoms I get from any probiotic = increased churning, discomfort, and occasional loose stools.
can't recall having any real positive effects - but still have some and may try it again now my gut function is better and I can tolerate a little more - eg Homemade sauerkraut.
by the way - it can be brewed as a culture at home to increase the amount you can take and reduce costs dramatically - similar to yogurt making - I think i saw the info on how on Dr Sarah Myhills site.

Garzie have you looked into BPC 157?
I’ve heard some dramatic results using this stuff. It’s very good for rebuilding mucosal lining, they say it heals ulcers. A few guys in the peptides group on FB rave about
it, apparently if you inject it into an injury it really aids healing. You just shoot it into your mouth and swallow it for stomach issues.
I found a post on Reddit where some people were saying it cured their dysautonomia

nope - thats a new one on me - sounds interesting - any links?
will have a look into it as I am sure my gut lining is in pretty poor shape - as i have food intolerances and skin issues etc

thanks for that - couldn't get the link to work through.
looked it up here
https://examine.com/supplements/bpc-157/research/#peripheral-organ-systems_intestines
seemed to have an amazingly wide array of actions in different systems and most of them very relevant to Lyme disease treatment. doses seem v low indeed - micrograms.
so it sounds interesting - but in terms of using it myself, i would have a few reservations for the moment based on what I read.
ie
-rodent only studies so far
-pretty much all the research was done by one group / not repeated by others
-patented substance = vested interests (raised likelihood of deliberate or unconscious bias in the science)
-mechanism of actions seems unknown - so we can only guess at unintended consequences at this point - that would concern me.
so it could be a wonderful thing - but it seems to be in its early stages and we should perhaps just remind ourselves that very few new drugs/substances with these characteristics tend to prove to be quite what they claim to be in the long run.
